Here's the story, about a website
And it's called broadwayworld.com
Everyone on it thinks I'm ditzy
I have known all along

Here's the story, about rentgal
Who didn't know much anything at all
Ya know she's young and, doesn't know what she's sayin
And she's not very tall

Until one day when rentgal finally shaped up
But had to ask herself something,
"If there are so many ppl on this thread,
how come no one is responding?"
Responding
Repsonding
And thatz why
Rentgal is such a flake.

I loved the first movie, and really liked the second. It was such a great concept to plop this idealized '70s family "as is" into a modern setting (the '90s). They were treated like such freaks, but were totally oblivious, and it worked really well.

The casting was great, and so was the art direction.

Back at that time, I was actually living in Studio City, just around the corner from the real house used for the original TV show's exterior shots. It was kinda freaky to drive by and see the Brady Bunch house. A lot had changed though. It had a fence around it, and a big tree in the front yard. But still, there was no mistaking it. They couldn't use the house for the movies, because the owners wouldn't agree to having their fence and tree removed for filming. (understandably) So they used a different house in Encino and built a facade on the front that matched the original exterior architecture.

The incest subplot of the second one was priceless.

And lets not forget the wonderful Jean Smart in the first one. "THE BRADY'S MAIL LARRY!!! SHE WANTS IT!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Actually, a friend of mine worked with La Smart for a couple of seasons at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in the late seventies (William Hurt was also in the company) and said she is a superb Shakespearian tragedienne. Who knew?

With the whole Christine Taylor...
GOD!! CHRISTINE GETS EVERYTHING!

I can see Jan saying it. Christine Christine Christine!

I LOOOOOVED that show as a kid. I noticed that the Barry Williams and the woman who played Alice in the original were in it. Was anyone else? I don't recognize many people.

I loved the first one. With all the throwbacks to actual episodes of the TV show. The Jan character was spot on. And the "oh my nose" storyline was priceless.

Audreytwotwo - I think rentgal was making the song up to the tune of The Brady Bunch TV show theme. Just curious - have you seen the TV show? Because the movie might make a lot more "sense" (so to speak!) then. It really is funny! re: Brady Bunch Movie

Yeah, I just didn't get the whole deal with why everyone thought they were freaks. It looked like it was in the 80s because of the punks and whatnot, but yeah. I used to be OBSESSED with it.

Oh. Lol. I like teasing rentgal since shes my friend. its fun. :)

The unique thing about the movie is how the jokes--for those of us who grew up watching the show from a very early age--come from a place almost within the subconscious: Jan's swinging hair, Marcia's pronunciation of "going to skyewwl"...these things are not funny in themselves, but...

And Christine Taylor really does look like the actress who plays Marcia (was it Maureen McCormick?).

Audreytwotwo, I thought so (that you'd seen the show), but I didn't want to assume and sound catty!

I was Jan a la Brady Bunch movie for Halloween one year in the 90s. I wore a too short, plaid polyester jumper (complete with with patch pockets), knee socks, platform oxfords, and a BIG afro wig.

I LOVE the BB movies.

Now, there was one made for TV movie in 2000 or 2001 and it was called The Brady's Go to The White House or something like that. They got everyone from the movies except for the kids...I didn't find that one funny at all.

--------

Florence Henderson and Christopher Knight are also in it respectively as Grandma and a high school gym teacher.

Maureen McCormick, Mike Lookinland and Susan Olsen had cameos as a carjacker, a cop and a news reporter in one of Cindy's fantasies, but (I believe) Maureen backed out because she didn't like the direction the movie was taking, and the scenes with Mike and Susan were cut. ETA: Maureen actually backed out of the carjacker role, but apparently accepted another cameo as a lemonade lady.

Eve Plumb is MIA most of the time. Why didn't she show up with the rest of the cast on the TV Land awards this past Sunday? Probably jealous because Maureen still looks hot at 50.

Susan Olsen's newspaper was actually called the Daily Tattler or something.

What cracks me up is I watched this when it aired on bravo recently, and I loved the TV show, and loved the movie, but uhh...realized a lot of the "jokes" I saw from the Brady perspective...like when Doug says he has assorted textures and colors of protection, and Carol goes good for you, I thought oh good for him, lots of different coats. I don't know, it just cracks me up that now I realize the total humor in the movie whereas when I was younger I was totally seeing it from the Brady perspective.

I think the best was when I realized what Charlie actually meant when he said something suddenly came up. Heh.

A Very Brady Sequel is on TV right now. I forgot how funny it was... I just watched the first movie a week ago on DVD, randomly.

Such a wonderful movie. I need to buy a copy of this movie.

I used to have a guilty pleasure for these movies, but not anymore. I can't explain it. I know they were supposed to be spoofs of the original series, but I just don't care to watch them anymore.

Oh yeah, and I know the actress who played Cindy is a no name, but she can be seen in a few episodes of season 4 of Gilmore Girls as Tana, one of Rory's roommates. It was weird seeing her in that because she didn't talk like Cindy and she also had curly hair that was a reddish color.

I was watching it on tv at the same time, Parks. I enjoy the sequel, but adore the first movie.

Jan cracks me up, the subplot about her glasses is hilarious. And as Borstal said, Marsha's pronunciation of "skewl" makes me laugh just thinking about it. Christine Taylor is a really, really, funny, underrated actress who should work more.

but for me, Jan, and especially Jean Smart take the Brady cake.

Those movies make me *so* happy.

When Greg Brady came to my school in 2004, I totally fangirled over him...but when he spoke of the movies his direct comments were:
Maureen forgot while watching the movie if she was watching herself or Christine Taylor. Shelly Long was passable, but what the heck was wrong with Christopher Daniel Barnes? Greg WAS cool, not some dork who THOUGHT he was cool.

I then got to re-create real Brady coreography, and was named an honorary Brady.
