I don't have the patience to go on every food website and check the hundreds of bread pudding recipes looking for the one I want. I'm talking about the kind of bread pudding which is 1. very heavy
2. very moist
3. more like pudding than bread
you see, I'm eating light these days! No, seriously, I need such a recipe. Does anyone here have it?

No, but if you ever come to Dallas I can tell you where to find the best bread pudding in town. It is as good as you will find anywhere.
(I know that is not helpful at all.)

I'm a chocolate bread pudding fan myself, it's one of my FAVORITE desserts. As an aside, Oscar's on the backside of the Waldorf Astoria often has one of the best chocolate bread puddings in town with their wonderful luncheon buffet. A nice white hard sauce with it, too.
I do not like egg in bread pudding (ugh!) and I don't like it mushy. Here's a recipe with no eggs. I'd go for a white hard sauce or Irish creme sauce to serve with it. A good vanilla ice cream is also good with hot bread pudding if you like. And this is from the food network. Note the other bread pudding recipes which follow it.

This is my favorite bread pudding recipe, but frankly "bread pudding" and "light" don't usually appear in the same sentence. Make sure you give the bread a chance to absorb the liquid before baking as that is the best way to get more of a pudding consistency.
Bread Pudding (the easy way)
6 slices lightly toasted bread, buttered and quartered
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup boiling water
1 tsp vanilla
1/8 tsp salt
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1/3 cup seedless raisins
cinnamon-sugar mixture (ratio of tsp sugar to 1/4 tsp cinnamon)
Arrange the buttered toast quarters in a casserole in two or three layers, depending on the shape of the casserole. Between each layer, sprinkle some raisins and cinnamon-sugar to taste. Combine the boiling water, milk, eggs, vanilla, and salt. Pour over the toast layers. Allow to stand until well absorbed - at least 15 to 20 minutes (encourage this by pressing down on the floating toast to sink it). Sprinkle the top with cinnamon-sugar. Bake at 350 F. degrees for 30 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean (baking time depends on the depth of the layers).

Just leave out the eggs, they ruin the taste and consistency. i don't like it too wet or too eggy.
Love the av, per usual, Jane2.

Recipe? I haven't made it in ages, but we just used stale bread - yeah, it has to be stale - and added egg and milk and sugar and bananas and raisins until it was the "right" consistency.
And if you come to Seattle, I'll take you to the best bread pudding I've ever had. (don't tell my mother)

DO NOT use toasted plain sliced white bread, it doesn't have the right texture and your bread pudding will end up tasting like toast soaked in milk. Use toasted croissants, toasted brioche, or toasted challah. Toasting the bread before hand won't make it crunchy, it just removes the excess moisture so the bread will soak up more of the custard mixture.
I have a great recipe that I got from the restaurant I used to work at, it was one of the signature desserts there, but it's kind of complicated and time consuming.
The one above sounds pretty good to me. And you could always melt some bittersweet chocolate and whisk it in to the custard if you want it to be even more orgasmic.
:)
