B'WAY TO LIGHT UP W. GALA

January 13, 2005 -- WASHINGTON — President Bush's inauguration is going Broadway — with the gorgeous voice of Tony-winner Kristen Chenoweth, plus the tap-tap-tapping of the Radio City Rockettes.
Chenoweth, who won a Tony as Glinda the Good Witch in "Wicked," is a special favorite of Bush and wife Laura. "They just love her singing," said inaugural-gala organizer Cynthia Grubb.
Chenoweth will sing a Diane Warren song from her new "Borrowed Angels" album "as a tribute to all of those at home and abroad who have so tragically lost their lives," said her agent, Jill Fritzo, who declined to say if the star is a Bush backer.
The organizers say performers aren't required to be Republicans, and they've gone for an eclectic mix of soul, rock and Latin music stars, as well as a few sports celebs like NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Contrary to some reports, raunchy Kid Rock, who has split with ex-"Baywatch" babe Pamela Anderson and dates a porn star, won't be headlining a youth concert organized by the president's daughter Barbara Bush.
The Bush inaugural committee says Kid Rock — a Bush backer against Democrat John Kerry — was never booked to perform, although conservative groups were up in arms about the possibility.
Kid Rock's agent didn't return calls.
The youth concert, next Tuesday, will feature "American Idol" winner and soul singer Ruben Studdard, plus the previously announced JoJo, Hilary Duff and 3 Doors Down, and ex-Giants football player Jason Sehorn.
Chenoweth and the Rockettes — who were a hit when they danced at Bush's 2001 gala — will star next Wednesday at inaugural-eve festivities.
So will the classic R&B group the Temptations, rockers Boxkar, country singers Kenny Chesney and the Gatlin Brothers, actor Gary Sinise and racer Earnhardt — beloved by the "NASCAR dads" who were seen as a key to the 2004 race.
A salute to the military on Tuesday will star actor Kelsey Grammer, 2004 Miss USA Shandi Finnessey, Latin singer Gloria Estefan, soul singer Bebe Winans and country artist John Michael Montgomery singing "Letters from Home."
New Yorkers coming to next Thursday's inaugural ball — they're organized by region — will get to dance to the music of the Pat Dorn Orchestra and the Texas band Doppleganger.
The ball catering to homestaters from Bush's Texas get the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Beatlemania, Dance Express and Tyrone Super-T.
YES!!! I KNEW IT!!!!!
Maybe THAT'S why Idina slapped the sh*t outta her.
She supported Bush.
haha.
Coming from the Post, doesn't surprise me.
"Miss USA Shandi Finnessey"
Who else always thinks gleefully (for a split second) "SHANDI FROM AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL WON MISS USA???" every time they see her name?
I'm just excited to see that Tyrone Super-T is making an appearance. I believe he won a Tony for his groundbreaking work creating the title role in Thoroughly Modern Millie

Cheno performing at the Bush inauguration... this makes me lose SOO much repct for her and makes me less supportive of her and her career. SHAME ON YOU, CHENO!
You know BSO, your signature almost redeems that post as sarcastic humor.
But based on your 'Wicked' posts, I'd say that is an earnest post. In that case, I say Godspeed sir, Godspeed. Go in peace.
I thought this was America...silly me.
Wow... my Kristin Chenoweth "personal likeability" factor went from like 9 to like 5. As a performer she's still up there, but man, performing for the Bush's? Lame.
Again...the whole point of America...
Well, rath, I must point out that in America, everyone is free to believe what they want, just as I am free to have any opinion about another's belief that I want.
Ya know, I'm sure she's a great girl. Sweet. OBVIOUSLY smart and talented. And probably treats people well. But, if she holds true to her religious beliefs, I'd have a hard time hanging around with someone that believes I, by virtue of who I am and the expression thereof, am going to hell.
No Rath... that's the way it should be... different performers for different parties, different restaurants, different drinking fountains...
Why not? Some idiots in the GOP are behind a new form of segregation, so let's push it even further. Why not? We'll show them that we are logical even tempered individuals. How dare you Kristen Chenoweth, How dare you madam.
We should boycott her. Or better yet, burn her house down. Let's go!!!
well, she can kiss good-bye any hope of ever winning anything on broadway now. lucky she won this one because no one will even think of hiring her again much less rewarding her efforts after this slap in the face to all of broadway. she'll be lucky if she isn't set upon by a pack of raging bww'ers if she dares set foot anywhere near broadway again. how foolish to throw away a once promising career like this...oh well, there's always branson.
Oh - I don't want to hang around with her either. I'm just pointing out that it's her right to do what she wants for exposure. And since she's singing a song from her NEW CD, I'm thinking that's possibly what's at the top of her list of reasons to perform at a Presidential inauguration. She doesn't seem to shy away from self-promotion of any kind.
I think we should throw a bucket of water on her and see if she melts. Oh, that was the other one...
Hey, you can make at least 3, 4 hundred bucks a week in Branson. It shouldn't be mocked like that. It's a good living.

I don't have an opinion on Ms. KC. I will say that politics aside, her singing for the President is a considerable honor. No matter who is the President. Not to mention career-wise she'll be exposed to millions of people nationwide. I have no idea what her political beliefs are, but her singing definitely isn't a stupid move.
And Broadwayguy? I guarantee that you'll be the first to kiss her a$$ if you end up in the same room with her. You're just like that :)
