.....what?
Well, I love when fact-checkers and editors have dumb moments and let things like that slip aside.....
But the whole Kristin thing - Her new album is a country/christian album isn't it? I've always known she was a hard-core Christian (isn't she in some book where she talks about balancing her religion and her career) and she's from Oklahoma, right? .... So why are we all surprised? I'm a total Democrat, and as anti-Bush as anyone here, but let the girl do what she's gonna do. It's all about getting more exposure in her quest to take over the world anyway:)
I'm including this link to an article she did with beliefnet that I found through google.
Beliefnet interview with Kristin
I don't have an opinion on Ms. KC. I will say that politics aside, her singing for the President is a considerable honor.
Why is it an honor? If I wanted to sing to an idiotic monkey, I'd hold a concert at the zoo.

Hell, if George W. Bush could become president in 2000 without actually winning the election, then Chenoweth could win the Tony in 2004!
A "hard-core" Christian. Oooo reason #2 to disembark. That Kristen Chenoweth train is getting mighty quiet...

If the news breaks that Tonya Pinkins actually won the Tony - as she SHOULD have - let me know.
that's a great line, JON, about the two elections.
i think KC's parents live here in Houston, and of course it's Bush country. But let's try to be a bit open-minded...i'm as liberal as they come, and i hate some of the GOP's policies. But there are some redeeming factors when it comes to the arts. Laura seems, at least publically, to champion the NEA, and god knows we need it. Shrub's folks, Big Bush (as well as his dad) support a lot of causes here in Houston, including literacy and some of the performing arts. It don't make up for the proposed Amendment or the jingo-istic cowboy war, but it doesn't damn the Foliage Family directly to hell either.
As to Crocodile Rocker, his charity work is legion. Do i like him singing with Eminem or kissing White House ass? not particularly. But have i raised as much money for AIDS and other causes as he has? not nearly. It is nice to see an openly gay person win that award, however.
Would i agree with all of KC's "happy X-tian" stances? probably not. But do i enjoy her artistry anyway? decidely so. If this exposure makes her more of a household name, and her views begin to coincide with mine, then i'll be happy she got the bully pulpit at that point.
As my snack food addicted auntie used to remind me..."Kay, Sara, Sara...pass the Lee pound cake and stop worrying."
I can't stand President Bush, but if I was a professional singer and he requested that i sing in the White House I would be there.
Who wouldn't. I would also take him aside and tell him my opinions on gay marriage.(and Abortion Rights)
I might get banned in the future but it would be the ticket in.
Really who would turn down an opportunity to sing in the White House.
Is anyone here old enough to remember the tv show Murphy Brown. Her character was banned from the White House for telling Bush off, George Senior. I would go and be polite but try to get through to him.
I don't blame Bush for wanting Chenoweth to perform for him. She is one of the most talented singers on Broadway and since I have met her at least 11 times I can honestly say she is not phoney she really is that sweet.

She is very talented, most recently evidenced by her terrific performance in "Candide".
The issue is that this is an extremely partisan event; a celebration that they have won the White House for next four years. Because Krisitin is now a public figure/celebrity, by appearing at this event she is now taking a political stance and we are allowed to question her choice and voice our disapproval. She is, in effect, celebrating their win, hence, their politics.
We can respond to her choice however we would like: support her, boycott her performances/recordings or voice our disapproval. I have selected to voice my disapproval. It's the American way! And, unfortunately, I feel that we have been too complacent and just go along with the majority. I'm grateful that we have an outlet such as this message board that we can express our thoughts and feelings when
First of all, as for the mistake about from whence her Tony came, the writer can't even spell her name correctly, so what do you expect?!?
Secondly, this is not the first time she will have sung for the "President" and his wife. Pickles. She also performed "The Girl in 14G," among others at a gala at Ford's Theater that was nationally televised several years ago.
As for thinking someone is going to hell, well, since her best friend is gay and she sang several years ago at the world's largest lesbian and gay church for Easter Sunday, I am pretty sure she is a little more liberal-minded than your typical conservative, right-wing, fundamentalist Christian...like "W."
She's also raised a substantial amount of money for AIDS charities, and long before she was a celebrity.
"First of all, the writer can't even spell her name correctly, so what do you expect?!?"
I get tired of hearing that in regards to Kristin and Idina. The news feature of this board has spelled "Minnelli" incorrectly in the recent past, as has Playbill.com. Doesn't mean they don't know what they're talking about. Typos happen. They shouldn't, but they do.
Aw sh*t. Do you all realize how inconsequential this debate has become? Not even a grain of sand in the desert of eternity.
Billy,
First of all, Pickles is priceless.
Second, I have NO IDEA what Ms. C believes about gay and lesbian people and their place in God's plan. I would like to think that, due to the very nature of people she comes in contact with and her fans, she recognizes the divinity in us all (and I suspect that to be true). BUT, according to certain 'Christian' teaching, lots of Christians believe I'm (we're) going to hell.
I kinda have a problem with that when choosing friends. There are so many people here who say things like 'I have friends who think being gay is wrong but they love me anyway' and I'm like, 'Who the hell needs that???'
It was more of a 'Lets ruminate on a theme' instead of 'Kristin hates the gays'.
omg, i can't believe you'd say those awful things, dbillyp! she's obviously the worst kind of human being. maybe she's not even a human being. she might be a newt. no, not a newt, newt's are cute and by her action she's definitely thrown off the label cute forever. maybe a snail. yeah, a helium voiced blond bobbleheaded snail! she's probably been trying to secretly convert cast members through osmosis all while cackling hysterically as she condemns them to hell as per her religion (or as payback for kudisch, one or the other). she should clearly be blacklisted and never allowed to work again.
while we're at it, we should look up all those other perfromers who might have conservative leanings. yeah, we can put them all on a list and keep any of them from working again in this town if they won't promise to never vote republican and work for the passage of gay marrriage laws. yeah, we can even force the performers who we think might have a soft spot for the gop to go before a panel of "approved" persons where they must prove their loyalty to broadway by naming other republican performers who we can then add to the list.
wow, this is gonna be great!
This sounds vaguely familiar, papa...can't place it though...
papa,
I refuse to see any Mel Gibson movie because of his public statements about and depictions of gay people.
I will not give that man my money.
Do you REALLY think I'm being unreasonable?
When will the insanity end? 'What Women Want' is one of the cinematic triumphs of the decade.
Robbie, I was actually ruminating on the theme with you. My point was simply that my experience of Kristin is that, while religious, she is not a typical fundamentalist. I was using the gay angle as an example.
Excellent...just wanted to make sure you knew where I was coming from!
robbie, as i told plum the other night, you are so on the list! repent!
but seriously, i was not really focussing on you, robbie.
Robbie, you're not going to hell for being gay anyway. You're going to hell for being a grade A bitch and a trashmouth to boot. And I love you for it .
CIRCUS PONIES!!!!!
Count the days, pop. Count the days.
And I love you too, robbie.
I am robbie, I am. I make it 9.
