Though I agree with you in the broader outline of your thesis, Addison, I think you have to ask 'Why?' when it comes to people looking the other way. It's all about self-preservation of a sort. And when an organization is led by someone perceived to be infallible in some way, then rot will ALWAYS happen. ALWAYS.

How many American Jews--who sanctimoniously intone "Never Again" at the mention of the Holocaust--lifted a finger to do something about Darfur?

So my protest of one injustice is invalid, unless I protest every injustice?

Even though I think the fact that a university has a private jet is ridiculous.

I cannot speak for the rest of the Paterno family but his sons Jay and Scott are two complete idiots who are digging themselves further in a hole speaking publicly about the Freeh report and publishing a letter by their dead father that did nothing but spout the typical Penn State slogans. Totally inconsiderate of the victims and just protecting legacy at this point.
