1) please stop. Just cuz u disagree with obama doesnt make you racist. I happen to like a lot of what hes done. People who I come in contact with... I live in Brooklyn go to school in Greenwich Village. Hardly conservative places. fellow students, teachers, friend's none I would include as tea party. Even newspapers that are generally liberal or moderate. In fact most of my Hispanic friends especially felt insulted.
2) that's right bush was wrong too. Local issue.
3) it was made racial by the press ( like nbc altering that tape) who ignored he wa hispanic for the longest time. Once potus commented it exploded even further.
4) 90% of murder victims or some crazy number are black the majority are males. Yet only thisperson looked like his son? Plesse there's no other exply

I'd like to believe you're right, Roxy, but 26 murdered 6 year olds didn't stir the country enough.

There also isn't as organized and co-ordinated Homophobic rights organizations the way the NRA has a vice grip over so much of American politics. I hope beyond hope that you're right, and it's possible gun control could see a shift the way LGBT issues have seen a sea change (if not an ocean change) the last few decades. But there is so much opposition, so much emotion, and most important of all there is so much $$$ in so-called "gun rights" advocacy. Sales of weapons and ammunition skyrocket after every tragedy because of fear of new gun control legislation; such legislation never passes because NRA lobbying ensures that no swing district will elect a gun control candidate; tragedies continue unabated by our country's reprehensible policy towards (and obsession with) firearms; and the cycle continues. What's most dangerous about gun control isn't any rhetoric about government takeovers and overreach and freedom and liberty and other such boondoggle; what's most dangerous to them about gun control is the effect it will on the bottom line of the firearms manufacturing industry.
That, to me, is the difference; LGBT rights were purely a moral issue, there was no financial incentive to opposing gay marriage (or none of any reasonable merit.)

WaPo has released the names of the victims. I had the hardest time clicking the link while having flashbacks to the horror of the Beltway snipers. Those sob's gunned down an innocent person within a stone's throw of my home.

1) Sue, please don;t speak for "many people" unless you want to reveal "suestorm" is the name of a collective effort from se3veral people. Speak for you- what was racist about it?
2) What makes a crime "local"? I live in Chicago. Trayvon Martin was ALL OVER my local news. Likewise, today it's all about a shooting 750 miles away from me. What makes one local and one not?
3) You really cannot say Obama has never commented on other shootings. I was going to just post link after link after link after link to him commenting on murders in Chicago, Washington DC, New York but frankly if you can state such a flat out baldfaced lie a barrage of facts isn't going to sway you.

Joe
1)I already gave you a listing of people
2) a local crime is just that. a crime that is local in scope. doesnt span cities or states like a serial killer might, or something that is federal in scope. this crime was local just like a shooting in North Dakota, El Paso or Connecticut would be.
3) Obama has NEVER personalized any other Murder whle he has been in office there were 13,000 in 2011 alone
As for my other example of him making it political here is what uber-liberal Washington Post said:
speech then amounted to a very clear break with the way that Obama has dealt with race during virtually the entirety of his political career. During his 2008 campaign — and especially following his sweeping victory — Obama was cast as a sort of post-racial figure. And he and his top aides did little to dispute that image.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2013/07/19/president-obamas-remarkably-personal-speech-on-trayvon-martin-and-race-in-america/
Perhaps the WASHINGTON POST SAYS IT BETTER As a candidate for re-election, Obama shied away from speaking openly about what being the first black president in American history meant to him and to the country, choosing instead to run a campaign more narrowly grounded in his ability to deliver on the kitchen tables that all Americans faced.
The easiest theory to explain the change in Obama’s approach to talking about race then is that he now never has to worry about winning another election and, therefore, can speak his mind more freely.

Posted: 9/17/13 at 2:43pmDon't waste your energy, Joe. If not before, it's now abundantly clear "suestorm" only exists to stir the pot. She's just a variation on the other wingnut trolls. The Ignore feature really does remove the temptation of trying to communicate or rationalize with those who have no intention other than to provoke.

Sue you really have NO IDEA of who Barack Obama is or anything he's said do you? Do you really not understand that he wrote a whole BOOK about race and its effect on him- in 1995- YEARS before he ran for president? And he never stopped talking about race? He gave hundreds- probably thousands of speeches about the issue- one of the biggest of our times- before during and after his presidential campaigns? Can you possibly NOT be aware of that? YOU MUST remember the speech Obama gave back in March of 2008 about Rev. Wright that was a MAJOR speech on race by a presidential candidate because Rush Limbaugh blasted it for WEEKS! Doesn't THIS sound familiar:
"I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother – a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe."
You don't remember Rush talking about that over 200 times in the next 6 months?
I think you need to stop talking about things you apparently have NO KNOWLEDGE of.

Joe,you are listening to what others say about me not who i am. for the record i do not listen to Rush Limbaugh. i am not in the tea party. I am socially liberal, i am fiscally conservative having come from former Soviet Union.
Again, i like a lot of what Obama has done. i like his stand on nsa, spying, gitmo, drones, patriot act to name afew.
i hate when people hyphonate other people. I really dont care that hes black,or half black or that hes the first black president. to me he is the president. you disagree with him if you want, you dont disrespect him. i dont care that miss america is the first indian-american. or that QUinn if elected would be the first irish-lesbian-catholic mayor. that is why i may come across as insensitive. or maybe its cuz im from another country that wasnt hung up on race.
The Wash Post article which will never be confused with tea party agrees that he has shied away from race for the mostpart.

Incidentally, it took me a while to hunt down that Washington Post quote. It was from Chris Cilizza who writes the politics blog. He had also been a political reporter for MTV but lost his job during a free-wheeling discussion of Beer when he suggested that if Hillary Clinton drank beer it was probably "Mad Bitch Beer."
Just FYI.
