Posted: 12/9/04 at 2:34pmi am REALLY anticipating this film. I LOVED The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe growing up.

Posted: 12/9/04 at 2:53pmHas anyone else seen the animated version of this movie? I swear it exists, and I didn't just dream it...

The animated version exists for sure, but I haven't seen it in forever.
I'm sort of scared that it will be much suckier than I remember it being if I watch it now.

Posted: 12/9/04 at 5:45pmI haven't seen the animated movie, but I have seen the moderately-enjoyable BBC miniseries that covers almost the entire Narnia Chronicles.

haha...Edna..
I love these books. I've read them hundreds of times since I was given them in 4th grade. Definetly the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is my favorite from them all.

Posted: 12/9/04 at 6:16pmThe Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was the only one of the Chronicles of Narnia that I remember myself being captivated by... but once I got hooked, boy was I hooked. 2005 should be a really exciting year in film with this, Memoirs of a Geisha (pictures are out now! They're great!), Rent and The Producers. Hopefully they'll be high quality across the board.

Posted: 12/9/04 at 6:51pm2005 is the year I have been anticipating. And, now... who is Brian Cox?
re: Brian Cox is voice of Aslan!!#9
Posted: 12/9/04 at 6:52pmThe last two movies I've seen him in were The Bourne Supremacy and X2. He played an asshole military intelligence/CIA guy both times.

Posted: 12/9/04 at 6:54pmDidn't help... although I have seen those movies I don't really know who you are talking about. Thanks for trying. is that all hes in? sounds pretty obscure. (i love that word)
re: Brian Cox is voice of Aslan!!#11
Posted: 12/9/04 at 6:54pmHe usually takes on supporting roles in films, including Braveheart. Some of you will remember him as the fierce screenwriting lecturer in ADAPTATION (2002).

Posted: 12/9/04 at 6:55pmYou don't remember him in X2? He was the main villain. Slimy guy with a goatee.
re: Brian Cox is voice of Aslan!!#14
Posted: 12/9/04 at 6:59pmI'm sure he'll do a good job. Aslan may be noble but he's also a rather large and frightening animal, which is how Cox has played humans in the past.
re: Brian Cox is voice of Aslan!!#15
Posted: 12/9/04 at 7:01pmI always imagined him having the voice of James Earl Jones.
re: Brian Cox is voice of Aslan!!#16
Posted: 12/9/04 at 7:13pmMe too. Maybe he's been written as a less gentle creature for the film? (which would be odd since Aslan is based on Jesus Christ)
re: Brian Cox is voice of Aslan!!#17
Posted: 12/9/04 at 7:15pmI love the Narnia books and the BBC series. I can't wait until this comes out!!!!!! YAY!!!!!! It is going to be a great year!

Posted: 12/9/04 at 7:18pmBetween this and the adaptation of the Earthsea books, I'm quite terrified, actually. Sean Ashmore as Sparrowhawk? *shudder*

At least we've got the SHREK team behind this one, and Tilda Swinton as the White Witch. She was great in The Deep End.
What does everyone think about the upcoming Lemony Snicket movie with Jim Carrey?
re: Brian Cox is voice of Aslan!!#20
Posted: 12/9/04 at 7:59pmI finally read the first Lemony Snicket book yesterday, and...I'm not really sure what to think. Is it just an adaptation of the first book or are they sticking a few of them in there?
re: Brian Cox is voice of Aslan!!#21
Posted: 12/9/04 at 8:07pmSticking a few of them in there, but probably still writing it around Jim Carrey's comedic talents.
re: Brian Cox is voice of Aslan!!#22
Posted: 12/9/04 at 8:08pmHe has the right face for Count Olaf, that's for sure. But so much of the tone of the books is in the narration. We'll see.
re: Brian Cox is voice of Aslan!!#23
Posted: 12/9/04 at 8:10pmJude Law's voicing Lemony Snicket. That may be their way of maintaining the tone of the novel?
re: Brian Cox is voice of Aslan!!#24
Posted: 12/9/04 at 8:13pmJude Law? I was wondering what his involvement was in that; he's certainly not right for any of the other characters. Eh, we'll see. I'm kind of going into this Zen state about all the movies of books I've read. If I get invested in it I'll just get upset; I know it. Good adaptations are incredibly rare.
