At least the predicted storms weren't bad last night. That would have seriously complicated the rescue work.
My dad crossed the bridge maybe 15 minutes before it collapsed. Whew.

I just watched a video on Kare 11 showing the bridge initially collapsing, I'm not sure if anyone has seen this but it's really horrible.

Bumping because I just found out that a girl from my school's mother was one of the people who died yesterday. I hope all of you can include Jessica Engebretsen and her family in your prayers tonight.

"Who's inspecting the dams and bridges and infrastructure and do cities and states take enough care with their maintenance and inspection programs?"
With more and more federal money being used for the debacle in Iraq instead of filtering to the states and cities for upkeep and maintenance, I fear we are going to see more and more of this kind of thing happening.

The headquarters of the company that I work for is in Minnetonka, just outside Minneapolis. Wishing the best to all of our co-workers. Godspeed.

To pour salt in the wounds of the community and the victims' families, the Westboro Baptists are coming into town to protest outside the memorial services and funerals.
Assholes.
Assholes.

Makes sense actually - I mean trolls have a certain affinity for bridges, right?
They could get arrested though - like these people:
MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota (CNN) -- Security is being beefed up at the site of last week's bridge collapse after 16 people were arrested for trespassing and hindering the investigation, Minneapolis police said Wednesday.
A sign urges people not to linger near the bridge collapse site in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Authorities are adding cameras, motion detectors and other technology that will alert police to intruders, Capt. Mike Martin told reporters during a news conference.
"The most important part is: Maintain the honor and the dignity (of the scene)," Martin said.
He said the state Department of Transportation is assuming control of security in the area, which is considered a death-scene investigation site.
Five people are confirmed dead in the collapse of the Interstate 35W bridge August 1.
Eight are missing and presumed dead. Their bodies are believed to be trapped under chunks of concrete and other debris and in crushed vehicles.
Navy and FBI divers -- who are working from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. to recover evidence and retrieve the remains -- have identified four more empty vehicles that can be removed to give them better access to the wreckage, the National Transportation Safety Board said Wednesday.
Don't go near that bridge!

This is directly from their website
"We know Minneapolis and Minnesota very well, having picketed there many times. Twice they stole our picket signs - violently, and right out of our hands - on the public sidewalk in front of the Basilica of St. Mary - as the police looked on and laughed. Typical Minnesotans. We want our property back. (Portion deleted as it's nothing more than a Biblical interpretation massacre) They died at the Bridge for the f*g sins of Minneapolis in persecuting WBC's missionaries. Worse and more is coming from the Lord our God. Better give our signs back."
Seriously? SERIOUSLY!?!? They actually believe God took out a major interstate bridge because some people stole their picket signs? The fools are crazier than I thought.
And better believe they're going to experience much worse than losing a few picket signs on this visit. I wouldn't be surprised if the Mpls police department beat them senseless themselves.

Once again I would be stunned by the insanity of those people if it were not for my intense cynicism which was expecting it all along.
I am amazed at the level of delusion and hatred that goes into these idiots.

I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.
