Bridget Jones - Mad About the Boy

If you think Dick Van Dyke's English accent was unconvincing then you should watch a very young Michelle Pfeiffer in "Falling in Love Again" where she plays Susannah York's character in flashbacks.
I love me some Michelle Pfeiffer, but...

"PS as a Christmas romcom I prefer this to (ducks) Love Actually, which I have now seen in its entirety"
You are dead to me. Dead!
Love Actually has its strong points and its weak points, but nothing in BJ can come close to Emma Thompson's scene in the bedroom. She was doing work that Streep would sell her daughters to be able to do. The brilliance of acting that Emma Thompson displays in that scene hasn't been seen in years. That scene is perfect.
I enjoy Shirley Henderson. It's too bad that she only played a bit part in Bridget Jones rather than playing the lead.

Posted: 10/22/13 at 5:39pmI enjoy her, too, but Moaning Myrtle as Bridget Jones? Puh-lease.

"That scene is perfect."
It is. But it's only one scene.
If Kander & Ebb were to have written the musical version of BJ then I'm sure casting Shirley Henderson and Alan Cumming would be fine.

YOU ARE RIGHT LOVE ACTUALLY IS THE ONLY MOVIE THAT EVER WAS AND I'M SO GLAD THAT'S WHAT WE'RE TALKING ABOUT IN A THREAD ABOUT THE NEW BRIDGET JONES BOOK
Actually hated Love, Actually, actually. Watched video. Not vg. Actually.

I actually love "Love Actually," but I think the whole carols-with-the-flash-cards scenes is kind of stalkery/creepy--especially the pic of the mummy, or whatever the hell it was.
But I'm with you on the Emma T. crying scene.

I have the capacity to love both "Love, Actually" and "Bridget Jones".
And love them, I do!
In fact, I think I will watch both movies again very soon.
Reg, we still have a movie date to schedule.. let's make it a double-feature!
So, the book. I haven't finished, but had the chance to get through a good bit of it while traveling for business this week. I had a hard time with the SPOILER (at first!), but, it hasn't derailed me from enjoying the book and, as PRS puts it, reconnecting with an old friend.
I did have a sort of startling realization, however, at just how much time has passed since these books were first introduced to us! Being relatively close to the age Bridget Jones is, in book 3, I gasped at how the time went by in the blink of an eye. I was just in my 30's, I swear...

I'm all ears, Reg!!
Ok, finished the book.
I think that there had the be the "SPOILER" in order to even have a 3rd Bridget Jones book.
It wouldn't be true to Bridget to have a book about her happily-ever-after life, where it left off with book 2. She had to have a reason to be involved with Twitter and technology and flummoxed by all that is part of life in these crazy times. (Don't know if that makes sense...)
I really enjoyed spending time with Bridget again.

Must read . . .

If I were to write a review, this is exactly the review I would write.
And, yes, it's possible I cried a bit at the end of the book, too.
(DO NOT READ, if you don't want to know the SPOILER)

I love the Glen Hanson artwork used for the article. He's one of my favorites.
