BroadwayWorld vs. AllThatChat

So, this has been bugging me for a while. What is the inside scoop about the difference between these boards? Is ATC appeal to an older crowd or one with different interests because the things that get a lot of attention over here never seem to make the same waves over there.
Anyway, I hardly ever venture over there anyway. It hurts my eyes, the way it is set up.

re: BroadwayWorld vs. AllThatChat

Though I participate more on BWW I like what ATC has to offer, especially since there aren't many posts from the rabid Wicked fans.

re: BroadwayWorld vs. AllThatChat

ATC does not permit members under 18, is strictly monitored, and has no off-topic area. Big difference.

re: BroadwayWorld vs. AllThatChat

BWW seems much more informal. And very diverse. ATC is more of a more mature atmosphere.
This is my signature.

re: BroadwayWorld vs. AllThatChat

Actually, ATC is only an age limit of 16 (I found that out the hard way, but I've been 16 for quite sometime now, and I re-registered on my birthday). I haven't posted much at all lately on ATC, but it's still a great site if you want some opinions from people who actually are old enough to know that the top 25 musicals of all-time DEFINETLY don't include Rent, Wicked, Aida, etc. (though I do love Rent).

On ATC, they save as much space as possible by deleting anything considered a "poll" (any post asking for many different opinoins), and anything "OT" is not allowed. Also, because posts don't bump back to the top when a new response is added, most posts only last for about 3-4 days, with no one really reading anything after a day and a half. No avitars, no signitures (though some have some things they put at the end of every post). BWW is more user-friendly, but if you're looking for a real good discusion that likely won't bring up the phrase "Oh, my God, Wicked is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo awesome," than ATC is a good site. Don't LEAVE BWW, but definetly take a look over at ATC.

re: BroadwayWorld vs. AllThatChat

ATC has lots of LONGTIME, very experienced and knowledgable theatregoers over there. It's the only place on the net where you can see a conversation about show from 40+ years ago and have a dozen or more posters chime in (their conversations about Streisand and Mimi Hines, Lainie Kazan and other replacements in Funny Girl have been extremely entertaining and illuminating). Lots of industry folks post regularly and I've learned a lot from the site.

That said, they do NOT suffer fools gladly and are often pedantic, bitchy and just plain mean for no reason (the bitchfests here pale in comparison). Even well-respected posters are attacked regularly. If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen, I guess, but while I still post there occasionally (I used to be a very regular contributor), it's just too stressful and not much fun to hang out over there too much.

Margo did you recycle that answer because I swear I've read that somewhere. Maybe it wasn't from you but I can't put my finger on it.

re: BroadwayWorld vs. AllThatChat

There was a thread about this a few weeks ago, and I believe Margo posted something very similar to that (the other one said more, I think).

re: BroadwayWorld vs. AllThatChat

i read that site for the reasons margo mentions, but that atmosphere is very constricting and i don't find it user friendly. i've never posted on a site before this one simply because other sites seemed so aggressively clique-ish.

I imagine ATC's annual get-together resembles an Artie Shaw convention. Which is why i never attend.

But at an Artie Shaw convention you'd learn about the making of "Begin the Beguine" and the sex secrets of Evelyn Keyes.

re: BroadwayWorld vs. AllThatChat

I try to go to ATC at least once each day to catch up on the info that's posted there. They have some very thought provoking info and, as Margo stated, some regular posters who have a wealth of experience and history behind them. Most are more than willing to share this when you ask them. They also have a couple of additional pages that I really appreciate - most notably ON THE BOARDS.

It is also definitely NOT a place you want to hang around. This most definitely is. As bitchy as it gets, you do get the impression that everyone is welcome here. (At least for a while!)
