I have a Canon Powershot SD 600, and I sent my camera in to Canon's repair company to have it fixed after I dropped the camera on its lens, which left them jammed. I should have been under warranty, but I lost my receipt and the Best Buy I bought the camera from couldn't find the purchase in their computers, so they were unable to reprint the receipt. Because I am not under warranty, I have to pay 115 dollars to have my camera fixed. A camera that is worth less than 200 dollars costs 115 dollars to fix? A little bit ridiculous, no?
My question is--does anyone know of a place that I can send my camera in to that could fix it for a more reasonable price? I need to get my camera fixed in order to replace my brother's camera which was stolen while in my possession.
Thanks in advance!

Posted: 12/28/07 at 10:43amI see that camera priced at over $500 on amazon. Pardon my ignorance but what makes it such an expensive camera?

Posted: 12/28/07 at 10:59amParks, I once had that same problem (broken camera) and I did a little price-shopping. They all charge pretty much the same for repairs. I think it's worth it to buy a new camera. What a shame, since your camera is fairly new.

I'm going to talk to my brother about it. I can probably get a camera that is just as good for cheaper than 115 dollars now. Or just buy one on eBay.
Thanks for your advice!
And morosco, the Powershot SD 600 is over 500 dollars on Amazon?? Ridiculous! I bought it for 200 last year, I think. It definitely was not more than 250.

Parks-one more thing-I once bought a camera on ebay. It was advertised as still in box with all the accessories, etc. I think I spent $184. When I got it, it didn't work! When I complained to the seller, he said that he never stated in the auction that it worked.
Make sure you find out if it works!

On amazon it's $598.23 to be exact. I think it must be a typo. But you are right. You can by the same quality if not better quality for a little more than it would cost to repair the broken one.

Posted: 12/28/07 at 12:28pmThe Canon SD 1000 is only going for 149 right now at Best Buy and some of the other models are only around 200. Might be worth investing in a new camera.

Heck, I just bought a Canon SD870 IS, a MUCH better camera than the 600, and only paid $299,,,,$598 for a 600 is just crazy.
Paying $115 to have yours fixed makes no sense when you can spend a bit more for a new camera.....
$149 for a 1000 is a damn good price...that's cheaper than anywhere else.

The 1000 is the newer version of the 600...so you might as well replace the whole thing for not too much more than the repair job on the 600.
I heard the 870IS is awesome, but I love my A series from 2 years ago...so for a ultra compact to fit in my purse, I picked up the 1000 this morning since the price couldn't be beat.
