So I went ot the movies, and they have that "Movie Tunes" pre-show thing while trivia questions and advertisements flash on the screen. Suddenly I hear, "It's Tony Award time on Broadway. We congratulate all the nominees and winners. Now here's a song from the smash Broadway hit musical BROOKLYN, featuring hot new superstar Eden Espinoza and Tony Award winner Cleavant Derricks!" Then, after the song is over, "That was from the smah hit Broadway musical BROOKLYN. You can order tickets through Telecharge..." and they gave the phone number.
First of all, they falsely iply some connection between BROOKLYN and the Tony Awards by mentioning the awards befreo introducing the show. IT DIDN'T GET A SINGLE NOMINATION! Cleavant Derricks won the Tony like 20 years ago for DREAMGIRLS. Eden Espinoza is hardly a superstar, and the show is closing this week, so good luck ordering tickets!
SMASH HIT????

They're trying to trick the American non-theatre public. Do they think we're THAT stupid?
....oh...

Heard that as well at the movies? Someone behind me said "What the H*ll was that?" Then someone else yelled "Crappy!"
While I have never seen this show, and do not like what I have heard from the cast recording, I do hope the actors do go on to bigger and WAY better things. I do hate to see an empty theater.

Posted: 6/25/05 at 1:17pmWell, it was Tony time when they made the ad. Derricks did win the Tony (win one, and you are forever known for winning one). While Eden isn't quite a superstar yet, thats open to debate about everyone (a superstar to you may not be one to me). The only thing not really true is the "smash hit" part.

The whole thing is a whitewash. Movie studios have been doing this for years. They'll use only part of a review in a movie's advertising.
A review could actually read: "The movie was a piece of crap but it was great when it was finally over..."
The movie studio in turn will only use "...it was great..." and get away with it because after all that *was* what was printed.

No show had worse marketing than Little Women. Except maybe La Cage.

Well, that's awfully stupid. Smash hit? Don't make me laugh...
I also heard DRS before Kicking and Screaming...that was kind of neat..except that the young'ums were hearing the infamous lyric...well, Norbert says it, I can give you a hint there.

...hardly.
The only things that smashed were the windows of the Plymouth/ Schoenfeld.

Very true. The way Little Women was marketed, a 2nd year undergrad marketing student could've done better.

I went to the movies and heard the same thing.
I was like: "WTF?!?! Are we talking about the same Brooklyn? Or is there one in an alternate universe that's better?"

It was funny..when I went in to see Bewitched, I went in and Brooklyn was playing, and I heard the screeching the minute I walked in and I instantly knew what it was. So I groaned...but then these two girls sitting nearby me got mad at me because apparantly Eden was their God. Hehehehehe
hehehehehehe

hehee I remember when I first bought the CD, I played it in the car with my mom and my mom said "AH turn it off! Put in something nice, what's that song? Seasons of Love, I think? Put that on, this girl is giving me a headache!"
You are certainly not the only one.
