He has perhaps the greatest credit of all time in his IMDB listing:
Cruising (1980) (uncredited) .... Man greasing up his fist in club

Oh, no! That's awful. I always enjoyed him in any film he was in.
RIP, Mr. Kirby.

What's with all of the great character actors dying this year? Chris Penn, Jack Warden, and now Bruno Kirby.
Ugh.
Here's to you, Bruno. Rest in peace...

Very brief threadjack to reply to StageManager2: Well, it's me backstage at Sunset Boulevard. I was just ensemble. I only read Betty during rehearsals.
EDITED TO ADD: Yay, When Harry Met Sally!

I saw him Off-Broadway in BUNNY BUNNY - Alan Zweibel's play about his relationship with Gilda Radner. Kirby was terrific, as was Paula Cale, who played Gilda, and Alan Tudyk, who played about 15 different roles.
Kirby also replaced Kevin Spacey on Broadway in Lost in Yonkers.

How sad! I loved him in When Harry Met Sally (thinks of the hilarious wagon wheel coffee table scene), The Freshman and so many other things. May he rest in peace.

Spinal Tap?
That is sad, he really had a wonderful personality and voice that just made you like him in anything.
By the way, Namo, is there a credit for "Guy in sling"?

Wow. SO young.
I'm very sorry to hear that news. I always enjoyed his performances.
re: Bruno Kirby - RIP#14
Posted: 8/15/06 at 11:39pmNo such credit, Sueleen. What's weird is, I can vividly recall the glimpse of "guy greasing fist." And I mean in the movie "Cruising." I never knew it was B. Kirby Jr. as he was known on "Room 222."
re: Bruno Kirby - RIP#15
Posted: 8/15/06 at 11:44pmShoot, I auditioned for "man in sling". If only I had gotten the role I could have worked with Junior.

I just saw this...and now I'm sad. I loved him in City Slickers and When Harry Met Sally. I love the wagon wheel coffee table scene, too. Anyone remember "baby fish mouth"?
Rest in peace, Bruno. We love you!

All I could think when I read this was, "Wow. So young."
And then I saw I wasn't the only one to think that.

God, I remember first seeing him in the Disney film "Superdad" as a kid.
I loved it when he started a big career upswing in the '80s. Very talented and always memorable.
He will be missed.
