Berger took classified documents which may have covered up Clinton re 9/11 . To say that Libby's crime equals this is ludicrous

Every single day Bush and his gang make me ashamed about what they are doing to my country. How did we ever let this happen? Why did we not take to the streets when he was "appointed" President? Shame on us all.
Yes, I agree 100%, President select.

Roxy you CAN NOT beleive that! First, even if Berger stole classified documents that proved that-- they are historical documents, not to impact any current or coming event. They were part of an archive.
Scooter Libby lied and derailed a criminal investigation of the disclosure a CURRENT WORKING CIA Agent. Even if you hold that Valerie Plame was not a "First tier" agent who couldn't have prevented a forthcoming terrorist attck (And I certainly DO NOT think you can say that) she was a CURRENT CIA AGENT and her career was ended prematurely by this crime.
And Berger WAS NOT PARDONED-- REPUBLICAN prosecutors gave him a deal. He plead guilty. Case closed. Scooter Libby, like it or not, went through the criminal justice system and recieved a fair trial. Bush has overturned that verdict.
Bush's pardon is a giant FCUK YOU to the rule of law in America.

roxy, your colostomy bag must be backing up into your brain again.
Did you say that same thing and hold the same standard when Slick Willie Clinton pardoned over 170 people on the day that he left office?
Shrub did what was in the best interest of Scooters' safety. Come on how safe can a guy with the nickname (still) of "Scooter" be in prison no matter how white collar. This is no surprise. Just remember it is just another 567 days.
Until Fred Thompson becomes our President.

Remember how the criminal Bush said he was going to take care of the leaker? Now we know he meant! Bush is gutless. Congress better look into this.
HD, you do realize that Scooter Libby worked for Marc Rich, right? Clinton pardoned a Republican. So, you think Scooter is not as bad as Marc Rich?

White House has turned off their phonelines -- firedoglake "Outrage"
OUTRAGE
by Jane Hamsher
Demonstrating his complete contempt for trial by jury, rule of law and his own Department of Justice appointees, George Bush thumbed his nose once again at the very concept of democracy and the Beltway Brahmins are cheering. The dirty unwashed masses who populate our juries are fit to judge each other, but evidently not the ruling class. David Broder can breathe a sigh of relief that People Like Him are safe from those overly zealous US Attorneys who might want to hold them accountable to the same absurd standards that the little people must live by.
How quaint.
The White House has turned off their phone lines. Evidently they don’t want to hear what you think. There will still be phones tomorrow, and I don’t imagine anyone who cared enough to drop Dubya a line is going to forget.
I hope all those who predicted that there would be such a cry of outrage over this that Bush will somehow pay a huge price are preparing to, you know, be outraged.

Roxy, ever since the bogus TV movie about how brave W is and how horrible Clinton was, you've brought up the Berger thing. It's pretty clear you didn't even KNOW about him before that movie. Only the Xenia Ohio Crew brings him up more. And in this thread you say, what's past is past, it's over and done and why bring it up anymore? And then later on today you bring it up again. That is so you.
(I realize saying that you are so you is a personal attack. So be it. There really isn't anything worse I could say about anybody.)

Oh no! He'll never be able to vote. Do people like him vote anyway?
Is that Mutha determined to leave office without an iota of dignity or any indication whatsoever that he actually understands how the world works? Unbelievable.

I am still reeling
1) That he commuted the sentence. He even had to balls to say that he didn't mean to contradict the judge, but the sentence was too harsh. The balls!'
2) That he didn't even come on camera to READ his commutation. The contempt for the people of America! My god, this sets a new low.
3) That he's on vacation and doesn't want to hear about it. Again, what contempt.
Keith Oberman is the only person that I feel is as outraged as I-- he called it possibly the greatest crime in this new millenium.
And you know what-- this has NOTHING to do with Sandy Berger. Nothing. Nothing to do with Marc Rich. (Expect that Scooter was his lawyer). Nothing. They are non-issues. As John Dean said tonight, this is the equivilent of the Saturday Night Massacre under Nixon.
I will say this-- I will drive to Republicna debates to make sure that this pardon is brought up. Fred Thompson (and any other candidate that gloats over this travesty) ia unelectible.
Bush and Cheney have poisoned the Rule of Law.
There is no law in Republican America.
There is only sanctioned lawlessness.
Bush and Cheney are as criminal as those they pardon.

The White House has indeed shut down the switchboard and comment line. When I called earlier and got a bland message I figured it was just overloaded. Can the few remaining people defending this president at least appreciate the symbolism? He doesn't even PRETEND to listen to his constituents.
The Republican line? The same old BS about "No underlying crime" broken only by the bleats of "Clinton! Clinton!"
We need to break the whitehouse switchboard with outraged calls tomorrow. And call your congressman and senator and DEMAND a congressional inquiry.

Most Disagree With Bush's Libby Decision
A new SurveyUSA instant poll finds just 21% of Americans agree with President Bush's decision to commute Scooter Libby's prison sentence, 60% say Bush should have left the judge's prison sentence in place, and 17% wanted a full pardon.
Only those familiar with the case were asked to react to the President's action.
Partisan breakdown: 32% of Republicans agree with the President's decision, compared to 14% of Democrats and 20% of Independents.
