Like it, but what is with that awful background color?

I actually love the background. It gives the right location and timeframe feel
Here is a higher res version

Posted: 9/23/09 at 10:04amDoes anyone remember those giant Disney puzzles they used to make of theses posters. I remember having a Beauty and the Beast one, and a Little Mermaid one . . . but the posters were different from the cover of the VHS box.

Yeah, this poster kinda says, "Look how much we have going on! 8,000 busy characters to tell a very simple story that you could rattle off in two sentences!"
If they have to pad the poster this much with "stuff," it makes me wonder if they've done the same thing with the whole movie. Just a hunch. Either that, or they're trying too hard.
It pretty much says, "This one's for the kids," to me. Not the simple elegance of Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, or The Lion King. Although, those movies had two poster campaigns. One aimed at children and the other at adults. Could there be a "B" poster lurking somewhere?
As for the Louisiana mud-colored background, yeah, it works for the story. And the location. But something a little warmer would have been better. Like a reddish-brown.
This color looks like something I scraped off my boot.

Besty, here's the one that is geared toward adults. It's still a little busy around the border though.

There's also this poster, but I think it's only going to be used for the international premieres.
Which is okay, because Tiana looks really angry and stiff.
And, it's weird. That first poster has so many characters on it, but some of them are really barely even in the movie. I think the turtle has like a five second cameo.

Posted: 9/23/09 at 12:04pmIt's not mud colored on the actual poster, it's green. The pic at the top post is a low resolution.

"She looks pissed off in that one."
I know, and they're using it as promo art. I hatehatehate that picture of Tiana.
I also hate this picture of Naveen.
He looks like an asshole in it. I love his character design in the trailers and screenshots, but his face is totally off-model there.
This is what he's supposed to look like:

Oh, that picture of conditioner is a shame.
Who approved that?
Naveen definitely has that "I'm so great" expression. He reminds me of James Marsden in Enchanted.

Does the new poster remind everyone of this?
Anyway, I think I'm going to like Prince Naveen. I can see the personality resemblance to Prince Edward, but I think Naveen may be smarter.

From what I've seen/heard, he's not stupid, just a huge slacker who wants to do nothing but have dancey time 24-7, LOL.

Posted: 9/24/09 at 12:11pmThey've already got her out doing meet and greets in the parks, and there's already lots of merchandise available. They really seem to be banking on this doing well, and being able to make her a viable part of the Princess franchise.

Posted: 9/24/09 at 10:27pmThey have her meet&greeting already?? I thought the first she'd be in the Disney parks would be around when Tiana's Showboat Jubilee starts at WDW in October! I saw the promotional pictures of Tiana with Anika Noni Rose, but I had no idea they had already sent her out into the parks.

I just wanted to comment on the fact that Disney actually didn't re-do the story of this fairytale on thier own. I recently found out that the story is actually based on a book by ED Baker entitled "The Frog Princess." It's the first in a series of teen books. I actually just bought it to read, though I'm debating reading it *after* I've seen the movie since books are always better...
As far as the posters go, I like the second one better than the first one' I like the tones better and feel that it's less busy. You're right that the busier poster is very reminiscent of TLM, though! <3
