re: CAMP

I'M SO GLAD I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO LOVED IT!!!
"The stage is where I live and come alive and act out all the things that go on in my life. It's not just what I do for a living, it's my shrink and my love affair. No one in my life has ever or ever will kiss me on the mouth like this lover called my relationship with my performance."

re: re: re: CAMP

yeah - but what about the dissappointing Hollywood sellout ending? That spoiled it for me.
"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!

re: re: re: re: CAMP

The script is cliched..

The direction is unfocused...

and..

The acting was, for the most part, awful....

the musical numbers however fare better and "How shall I see you through my tears" is fantastic....

...and of course the "ladies who lunch" as Sondheim usually makes me want to vomit as well.....

I could listen to the Camp version of "Century Plant" once a day for the rest of my life and never get sick of it.

Believe me Anthony, I know a lot about myself. It's only in your alcohol-soaked, high-pitched, always gabbing, vertically challenged world that a song written by Victoria Williams isn't a great thing. But then again, you love Christina Aguilera and her collection of the best songs money can buy. When your high standards are pinned on the careers of ex-Mouseketeers, there's little more that needs to be said.

What's that I hear? Oh, Anthony, I think Britney Spears is calling you. You better run! GO!

OK, I was going to post a message about this movie as well only it wasnt going to be a good thing. When I rented it, I hoped for the best. I thought they were going to do lots about training and showing the different aspects of musical theatre well. What I DIDNT think it was going to be was about was what it showed to be. It tried to make itself realistic, but just came out god-awful. I'll give it that the singing was very good, but the storyline and acting were just horrible.
I do however have to agree with you though that Vlad is very nice to look at. re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: CAMP

I think there is such enormous good will that obviously went in to the creation of Camp that comes through, most of the problems are forgiveable. Good will is something that Anthony would know nothing about.

I thought that given the short duration of filming and the shoestring budget, CAMP was a fine little film. It captured, idealistically, a time and and a place and an experience. I'm sure it rings true for some and not for others. It reminds me of how I felt about John Sayles' Return of the Secaucus Seven. I loved that movie. Hell, I *still* love it. Secaucus Seven was a low budget film...a little rough around the edges, maybe...but a terrific film that captured a slice of life to which I could relate. I found it much more touching than the big budget film it inspired (The Big Chill).

as cheesy and bad as the acting was, i think most people will agree that this is a perfect depiction of drama camp, except this movie had a hell of a lot more talent. you can't deny that those kids have pipes from the gods. and vlad.....mmmmm
