Like a dumbass I volunteered to house sit for a friend who live where the 101 and 405 meet.
Guess I'm not going anywhere next weekend.

I plan on staying FAR FAR away from that entire area next weekend. I was talking to my friend who lives in Culver City and works in Burbank, and he's freaking out cause he has to go into work next Saturday. I think he's planning on staying friday night with a friend in Glendale.
Fortunately I live in South Pasadena and work downtown, so I have no interaction at all with the 405 freeway :)

Posted: 7/9/11 at 8:18amJames885---He can take surface streets. I worked in Burbank and had clients in Culver City, so I used that alternate route back many times: Olympic to La Brea to the 101 to Barham/Olive. That'll put him in Burbank. He should allow about an hour during rush.

The only problem is that the rest of the city is going to try and take that same exact detour. The streets are going to be a mess.
Anyone see this parody about the traffic yet?

Posted: 7/10/11 at 2:51pmI think it would be funny if so many people avoided the area that weekend that it turned out to be easier than normal to get around.

Maybe it will be like the Olympics?
My home is not too far from the 405/10 intersection, also in the Culver City area. In addition to the 405 being shut down next weekend, there is construction on Sepulveda a wee bit south of the 10.
I am going to visit TJs on Thursday, make sure I have stuff for the weekend, pop in the first few seasons of Mad Men, and hanging at home. No plans on going ANYWHERE after Friday night.

"Maybe it will be like the Olympics?"
I was just talking to someone tonight who brought that up! He had a catering business then, and they were able to zip around all over the place.

So I lied ... I snuck out to see HP this morning. But, still staying pretty much close to home.
All seems pretty quiet. A total-non-event so far.

Posted: 7/17/11 at 12:33pmI loved that even during the police chase I was watching on KTLA.com last night, that driver was also avoiding the 405! Sometimes I really miss L.A....

They are apparently ahead of schedule and the FW should open this afternoon.
Who knew that all of the drivers in LA could actually pay attention for a moment. Kudos for those involved in getting the message out. A really well done PR campaign.

Posted: 7/18/11 at 1:09amQ- According to my sister, that's exactly what happened. She said the roads were empty, as everyone was scared away and didn't take the freeways.

Posted: 7/18/11 at 2:17amThey're going to do this again in 11 months apparently, and I wouldn't be surprised if that turns into a nightmare because everyone assumes because of this it will be no problem.
