During my morning bike ride yesterday I was struck by how many racing cyclists were passing me as I was leisurely riding around Hains Point. I made a comment like, "does anyone do anything for fun as opposed to being competitive all the time?" (i.e., let's see how fast I can ride, etc.).

I'm guilty, especially now that I have an odometer. I try to keep my speed at a certain average - long rides 14 mph and quick rides 17 mph - and I also get into "races" with others on the trail. They have no idea I'm racing them, though.

I also love Hains point. It actually feels like being on vacation every time I ride out there (which happens to be mostly every morning).
