I really, really, really miss having my own office. With a door I can shut. In someone's face.
That is so cool!
I'm getting through the day by focusing on drinks and dinner with some peeps from here later.

I have a mindless task today - stuffing envelopes for our annual "give us money" campaign.
But everyone just keeps talking, talking, talking and I want to scream SHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTTTTTTTTTTTTUPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!
And J2 is working late tonight so no nice drinks/dinner scenario to look forward to, either.
Poor me. I think I'll play the world's saddest song on the world's smallest violin for myself, for a change.

awww, D2. I get to go to Walmart after work with my mom if that makes you feel any better. lol
Deet, who do YOU think is who? whom? Whatever!
And you have drinks/nice dinner out every night. Bowl of cereal won't kill ya!

I most emphatically do NOT have drinks/nice dinner out EVERY night. Sometimes we order in.

I'm not having drinks with anyone tonight either. In fact I'm working late AND I will have to come in tomorrow, even though the office is closed. Please pass the tiny violin.
And for Moony and me:

I had an interesting discussion in therapy last night. I was discussing June Havoc's death, and why she fascinated me, why she was always my favorite character in GYPSY, and I came to the realization that she was the one who got away. She was in an untenable situation and she had the courage to leave, making sure that she took care of herself and her needs first. She went from being someone who was making $1,500 a week (in 1920s dollars) to abject poverty - while her sister and mother were living on easy street. But she did what she had to in order to survive. She did 7 marathons! 7! Can you imagine being on your feet, constantly moving for upwards of 3,500 hours, with only 10 minute breaks every 3 hours? SEVEN times? She stood in bread lines, she worked in department stores despite having no arithmetical ability, she raised a child by herself - her will and spirit were indomitable.
And speaking of "easy street:" when asked why she "consented" to be the 6th Miss Hannigan replacement in the original run of ANNIE on Broadway, she replied that she didn't care about things like that, she just wanted the work.
We could all learn a lot from her.
D2 - that's an incredible story!!! Thank you for sharing. A coworker was talking this morning about an HBO special she watched last night about a child with autism who grew up to be an animal rights activist that helped slaughter houses to become more humane (I dont remember the womans name but she was played by Claire Danes). The story really moved her so she was doing a lot of research today on her, autism, etc.
On a totally non related non inspirational note - I have totally hit high GLEE mode. And the non stop pictures of my Matthew in the BWW TV corner is not helping! *sigh* lol
Temple Grandin - another humbling, yet awe-inspiring story.
That's it.
I don't usually get hit by movies like that and I have about zero interest in fashion but lifetime did a movie a few years ago about CoCo Chanel (with Shirley McLaine) that left me feeling so inspired and full of female pride. Of course, I did nothing about those feelings...
I actually did not know much about June other than what you had shared over these months but yesterday I was googling random things (yay getting paid to do nothing lately)and popped her name in and was reading a lot about her, Gypsy, rose and the real life characters. Really fascinating stories on all ends that I had never known.
Yeah - Rose was a real piece of work! If you can find the books (GYPSY, by Gypsy, and EARLY HAVOC, by June) they're fascinating reads. Not just for the similarities, but also for the different view points on the same experiences. Gypsy's is the more colorful read, June's is the more harrowing, and I suspect more truthful.
Maybe I'll read June's.
On another note, I just applied for 3 jobs!
"We could all learn a lot from her."
And Shira, no maybe. Read it.
