Morning.
I've been having the worst trouble getting into BWW this morning. It takes forever for the page to download, and gets stuck on some Facebook plug-in app. Just give me a simple message board. Keep the fancy stuff!
So, the best part of last night was sitting amongst some celebs, and being on the aisle where people about to present or perform were held for a bit.
Shamey, we spent some quality time with Idina mere inches away!
Otherwise, I can honestly say that I have ZERO interest in seeing ANY of the nominated musicals that I haven't already seen.
And, if next year is as lack-luster a season as this year was, I may even skip attending the event. I think a pint of ice cream and some pajamas may have been the better call last night.
That said, spending the evening/weekend with a dear friend/framily member was worth every painful moment of some painful Tony performances.
I may be in the minority, but, I enjoyed Matt and didn't mind Lea. (maybe I'm just worn down in hearing her perform it so many times)
And, some of the stuff they did during the commercial breaks was fun.
I was on the sofa in my jammies with a gallon of Toffee Crunch and it was still mostly painful, Addy. So many mic/sound issues. I liked Matty but the boy did run out of steam -- if there's going to be that amount of heavy breathing, it needs to be in my bed -- with all due respect to Tink. Lea -- cringe worthy. Really loud, screachy and last nerve breaking. Loved Sean and my Chennie. You couldn't pay me to see AI, Fela or Memphis -- oh, wait I did see Memphis. And, don't get me started on Miss CZJ. It was as bad on TV as it was in the theater. Bring on BP!!!!
I like Sean, but I didn't think he was all that great a host.
My friend's nephew hooked up the comp to the tv and we got the red carpet and tech awards streaming, so that was nice to see. If I'd been home, I probably wouldn't have. Idina's mom looks so young!
I like Memphis, had a good time when I saw it and really enjoyed it. I know I'm in the minority...so be it.
The stuff that goes on during the commercials is the only reason I'd want to be there in person.
Overall, I thought it was boring compared to the past few years. That could be because I wasn't overly invested in who won as I might've been in the past.

Yeah, if I were CZJ, I would've said, "Sorry, my voice is pretty much gone. Let someone else sing something."
The mic/sound issues were bad in the Hall, but not as bad as the broadcast.
I think Lea sounded better 'live'... but she needs to give that song a rest. Didn't catch Matt's heavy breathing. Again, that may have been pronounced on the broadcast.
Miss CZJ was horrible. Her performance. Her actions. Her speech. All around embarrassing for her. Cringe-worthy.
Miss Peters was divine. She passed by us on her way to present, and she looked radiant.
Even the after-party was kind of a bust. Not enough seating. We looped around for a bit and then called it a night. Taking off my shoes was the best part of the night! (Other than the divine dinner and spending time with my guest!)
Girly - so that really WAS Idina's mom??
We heard Idina introduce the woman she was with to someone while they were in the aisle right next to our seats, and both Moony and I said that it just COULDN'T be her MOTHER! She looks like a sister! Wow.
We got to the Hall in time for the 7pm start last night (in year's past we've waited until 8pm), and I'm glad to have seen them, because there were some great moments. Loved David Hyde Pierce. And Marian Seldes was... perfection.
Matt's getting ragged on pretty hard for the breathing thing, but whatever, lol. He was still perfection to me. :)
Yeah, Fela I am sure is a great show, but was just weird out of context and not on my to see list. My mom now wants to see Million Dollar Quartet now, and I do actually want to see Memphis. I will see Green Day in August and I think that will be the only viewing of "american idiot" I get.
Prior to last night, and based on reviews from people who had seen some of the shows on Saturday night, I had thought about catching Memphis and MDQ. Now, not so much.
In fact, not at all.
Yep, it was, Addy.
I watched with a few people that had seen everything, so it was interesting to hear their comments regarding who they wanted to win, compared to who actually won. When CZJ performed, they went ballistic. Their reactions when she won...priceless.
Oh and Shamey, I had the World Cup on for about 20 minutes. Heard the girl's town mentioned, and almost sent you a text. LOL!
When I first turned it on, they were all just standing around, and I couldn't figure out what the heck was going on. Seems it was right after that goal slipped in tying it up. And what was that annoying noise that seemed to never stop? It was almost like a muted air horn or something. Not sure how to describe it.

Called a Vuvuzela

Girly, that would be the vuvuzela horn. The South African instrument of choice. It sounds like a swarm of killer bees to me. Some people say elephants or Chewbacca. All i know, is that i couldn't sit in the stands and hear that for 2 hours.
Edit: See Tink's post. LOL!
:)
I do want to pretty much see all the plays though. Especially RED & Next Fall.
Beloved framily member and I had a WONDERFUL chat this morning, and she is now enroute home. If every Monday could begin like that...
OH DEAR GOD! I had something similar to that when I was a kid! This long, plastic horn thing!
I don't know what I'd do to those around me, if I had to listen to that for a long period of time.

Everyone keeps talking about CZJ's "performance" (which simply left me with my mouth hanging open,) but it was her acceptance moment - from announcement to walking off the stage - that had me constantly turning to the Tinman and pleading, "What the HELL is she doing?!?"

Harris, I'm genuinely sorry Sherie didn't win; I know how much you were hoping for that.
And I just saw your post on my FB wall. Thank you. Although I have to say that had FINIAN'S RAINBOW and RAGTIME still been running, I think that would have been the real race for that award. They were both so luminous in their respective shows.
CZJ was a trainwreck from start to finish.
Morning/afternoon peeps! I had a very busy, productive Sunday. I actually didn't turn the awards on until around 9:30..it was perfect timing too..."and here to present the next performance, Idina Menzel" Talk about turning on at just the right moment! My bff was, as always, radiant! I hope she doesn't forget my birthday
The only thing that actually got me a little excited was Matt and Lea's performances. Although I did get a little aroused by his heavy breathing

Matt was a highlight for us - and boy, did he look GREAT!
Matt really proved once again what a great performer he truly is!
I was swooning with Matt's performance, but I promise to Tink and Deet I won't touch!
I never make promises.
