Mamie, my thoughts are with you and your sister and her family. My sister's husband died when she was 26 (he was 27) and left no inheritance and my sister had no job, so she moved back to my parent's with her two kids. For the rest of the story, see DGs post.

Fast forward 20 years, and her son runs his own travel agency, her daughter works full time, goes to school full time, and has an adorable 4 year old. My sister finally has her feet on the ground, has an excellent job in travel that takes her around the world, and just bought her very first car.
