...two people at the same time?
I don't see a reason why they couldn't...
but it sucks if you're one of the people he is in love with but refuse to be in that kind of arrangement.

Yeah, I have two crushes. I guess you can say I'm deeply, passionately in love with them.
Been there, done that. I finally had to be honest and admit that I wanted to have my cake and eat it too, no matter how much I tried to justify it. Somebody suffers in the end.
i've experienced it...from being the pivot to being an axis. It's hard, but it can work out.

I've been having torrid affairs with both Patrick Wilson and Eric McCormack for some time. Neither seems to mind.

Same here, with Alec Baldwin and Ed Harris. It can get a little testy after a night of drinking, but I love a little testy.

Thank you so much Dollypop for taking a serious thread and turning it into a chance to make jokes. You too Namo. Real nice...

Why do you think I'm joking?

Sorry to add to your long-suffering suffering Albin, what I was going to originally post was that some people actually do manage to have successful triad relationships but that, like all relationships, they take a lot of work.
But by the time I had written that you had already put up your second post which showed that it wasn't something you were interested in pursuing. So what was the point in contributing to the thread? Was I going to write, "Oh, you should give it a try, Albin! Sometimes it works well!" when you already "refused" that arrangement?
So, near as I can tell, we were SUPPOSED to write something along the lines of, "Oh poor you, that's horrible." I just can't get upset when somebody is experiencing the love of another, even if the recipient has to reject it because it's not up to his standards.
Can a person be deeply, passionately in love with an idea... that's even worse...

Tell it to Ayn Rand.
I think a person can be deeply in love with two people at once, but the "being passionately in love" is an abstract notion. The real question to ask is whether a person can maintain simultaneous, intense, loving relationships with two people.
I believe--from recent, bloody, painful experience--that three is always 2 + 1. That balance may be constantly shifting (that is the best scenario), but inevitably, an imbalance will become permanent.
Screaming and crying will ensue. Trust me.
Usually one of the people involved gets tired of the situation and bails. Been there done that!!!!!
for a pictorial essay on the subject, try Howard Roffman's THREE. It seems to be working there, at least long enough for the pictures to be taken. And truly, folks, isn't quality sometimes worth a short quantity?
when a question like this arises, it's important to seek advice from those with experience...like the GOLDEN GIRLS:
rose: tell me, is it possible to love two men at the same time?
blanche: set the scene - have we been drinking?
In matters of the heart such as this, always turn to Cole Porter, who spent his entire life deeply, passionately in love with two, three, four--indeed sometimes an entire corps de ballet...

WHAT SHALL I DO?
I've just read of Cleopatra
The glamorous empire shatt'rer
(Who to Caesar lost her heart as well as her head).
But that early Roman Nazi
Was so mean to his Cleopatsy,
That she fell in love with Marc Antony instead.
To worship two men in turn may be sublime,
But, oh, it's hell when you care for both at the same time.
What shall I do?
Just imagine what I'm going through:
I love not one, but two.
What shall I do?
I'm in a spot,
Cupid's given me a double shot,
So won't you tell me what--
As well as what NOT shall I do?
Two men appear,
Each a swell Apollo Belvedere,
Each one ideal,
But though I fairly itch to,
I don't know which to hitch to.
I can't marry both,
After all, this isn't Timbuctoo,
That's the reason I appeal to you, and you,
What shall I do?
"To worship two men in turn may be sublime,
But, oh, it's hell when you care for both at the same time."
TESTIFY, sister. Testify.
Actually, I disagree with Mr. Porter on that score. I once worshiped two men at the same time and it was--
Well, never mind.
never mind, indeed.
As the line goes from ON YOUR TOES:
Junior: Miss Porterfield, can a good man love two women at the same time.
Porterfield: If he's very good!
