The Diary of V. There are I think three books, but they are really quick reads.

Well, I'm glad he got away with it.

I would suggest looking up Red Dress Ink books on Amazon. It's an imprint of Harlequin, but it's devoted to a younger generation and the majority of them aren't so romance-oriented and I haven't yet read a cheesy, awful one that sounds like a Harlequin. My two favorites are On the Verge by Ariella Papa and Burning the Map by Laura Caldwell. You can also check out their website at www.reddressink.com.

P.S. Laura Caldwell is in the Chicago area and has been doing a lot of book signings around the city lately. I met her back in July and she was super nice. Her books are excellent, but I think Burning the Map is the best.

I want to second the Jemima J vote as well! That book is so great and satisfying. Excellent choice, Cheno!

Have you read Sophie Kinsella's The Undomestic Goddess and Can You Keep a Secret? They're about as formulaic as her Shopaholic books, but I think she's a damn funny writer.

I tried Sharon Knum's The Thing About Jane Spring. It had a funny concept, but the book itself left me kind of cold.

Sorry- Jemima J is such a great, quick read. Perfect for a flight, the beach, etc. I agree- very satisfying!

I've read all of Sophie Kinsella's books, but I only LOVE the Shopoholic series. Becky Bloomwood is a damn funny character, and I can relate in some regards.

Anything written by Marian Keyes.

Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

I really loved the first two Shopaholic books, but as much as I liked the character of Becky, I did begin to find her tiresome toward the (current) end of the series.

Secret was a little slow going at the beginning, but it had its moments. I thought Goddess was pretty funny, though.

I recommend Diana Gabaldon's Outlander book. Its great escape reading. It is the first in a whole series of books, the newest one comes out tomorrow. re: Can somebody recommend a book

Ooooh! pcb-- you are so right! Marian Keyes never fails to make me laugh outloud. Her characters are always classic. I just got The Other Side of the Story recently and absolutely loved it. Watermelon is hysterical as well, even though it's a little more romance-y than I normally like.

All of you are coming up with the best suggestions!!! I'm a total book nerd and these are all wonderful!

Alisa Kwitney's books are great chick-lit too! (The Dominant Blonde, Does She or Doesn't She, and On the Couch)

I would suggest the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. The first is One for the Money. I enjoy them.
