Mornin'
How's it going, Deet? Getting ready for Irene? I hear she's on the rag so watch out!
The super is coming by later this morning to fix/tape up the windows. We're stocked w/water and other non-perishables, J2 is picking up additional flashlights and batteries this morning, I'm picking up additional candles. I can't trust J2 to get candles that match our decor. I think we're as ready as we can be.
I'm most worried about the windows breaking. I plan on sleeping in the interior hallway.
Fingers crossed for all of us.
How about you, Boobs? I'm worried because you're so near the shore.
I'm going to do some shopping tonight, so I'll have things in the house to eat. I can't count on delivery service. Being I am on a slab I don't have to worry about the basement flooding. If anything my porch area gets water. I have the wet vac all ready! I don't think they'll evacuate us because even though we're close to the beaches I believe we're inland enough. I did hear on the radio that one of the High Schools near me is set up for shelter already. My street is very windy, so I am concerned with the wind. The only room that has no window is my guest bathroom. I just maybe sleeping in the tub LOL My other concern is the backyard being the last rain we had caused a tree and utility pole to come down taking out the electricity and my neighbors shed. So the wind really is my mail concern. I don't need a tree falling on my house. I'm still not sure what is goign to happen with the show on Sunday. Talk is even the MTA may be canceled. How do they expect people to get to the theaters if that happens?

'Morning!
I went to three stores last night and couldn't find a single D battery for the flashlights. Guess others heard about the approaching storm, too. I did stock up on non-perishables filled my gas tank. I hope this whole thing just blows out to sea. I'm done with Mother Nature.
Moony, in the future you need to go to Costco and stock up on batteries. I started doing that when the kids were little. Mainly because they got so many toys that needed batteries. I try to keep a few of every size in stock now for remotes and smoke alarms.
My cousin can be so dense sometimes. We're talking last night and I'm naming some food things I have on stock if I lose power, etc. She says not to forget I have the grill, too. Immediately, I think she's talking about my indoor electric grill, and I was about to remind her of that, and I realize she means outside. I'm like, "um, so yeah. That's just what I want to do. Go outside in 75-100 mph winds and grill a burger with open flames!" At this point, she's hysterical laughing.
Then I said that maybe I'd pick up some Sanka to have on hand. At least it'd be some kind of coffee. She then proceeds to tell me if worse comes to worse, they'll light the wood stove in the living room and cook on it like prarie people. My response, "Sure, no electric means no A/C and you're going to stoke up the stove that melts us when it's winter!" I think I had her peeing her pants with my tone of voice.
I'm worried about her daughters. I have a feeling she might have house guests. Right now, where the one lives, evacuating is optional. But she's near the river side of Neptune, so she could wind up with the river in her living room. The other one's in Long Branch. I'm not sure what they're saying about her particular part of town.
My other handful of cousins that live down that way, are not near the water.
And I just got a call from another cousin, that the party they were having for her daughter who just got some degree or other is cancelled tomorrow. It had been moved up to noon late yesterday. That works out well for me, cause my other two cousins that couldn't go tomorrow, should now be able to go and keep me company. I hope.
I guess I should see about finding a flashlight somewhere today. When I went to find the one I had from some storm a few years ago, I found it got corroded. Bleh.

For my birthday, Hubby gave me box seats for the Yankees @ Orioles game tomorrow. I have a feeling that will be rescheduled, even though the brunt of the storm won't hit until Saturday nigh-Sunday morning. Those advance winds and rain bands can be pretty fierce. There is NO WAY we are meeting our visitors from St. Louis for brunch on Sunday.
Girly, this cousin if from the Polish side...right? LMAO!
I heard they were telling Long Branch residence to start getting ready to evacuated. The only good news is that GSP tolls from Cape May to Raritan are free which started at 8 a.m.
Yeah, that one's from the 100% Polish family!!

I'm now further out west but still in danger I guess, I dunno, this is the first big weather situaton to hit since living alone. Ummm, I guess ill get water and some snacks today. I think I have flashlights and I just bought some new candles. I have plenty of books. and well sleep all day is a good option.
Tinky, stay away from the windows!
I have a three room apartment... not much room to move away from windows lol unless I sleep in the outer stairwell.
I bought some cool emergency flashlights from Costco that were crank powered, contained a radio, and also have a USB jack so you can charge your cell phone (or laptop maybe, I have not tried) while working out your arms. I leave one in my car, a couple in my house, and one in my office.
Since I live alone, I am always afraid of being caught unprepared. I think everyone can come over here for a week or so if anything happens on the left coast. (I even have a spare propane tank so I can use it to not only cook, but boil water if I need it - I think I need to refill it and stuff like this is always a good reminder).
Stay safe, dry, and please be careful!
YWIW, thanks for reminding me...I have one of those hand crank flash lights.
Just to interject, can I say how much I HATE dating? Seriously.
I'm sitting here having the car serviced, itching to get to the store. I have candles, so that's no biggie. Worse comes to worse, if I can't find a flashlight, I can use the one on my phone. Hopefully, I won't have to activate the SOS feature!
To Sir With Love just came on. They've got decent music piped in. I had to walk away from the other waiting area that has the tv on. News 12 was making me antsy.

Mr. Matt....sometimes I think it's just the "whole starting over" thing. Getting to learn about someone new and their ways. Them getting to understand you and your ways. Once you get through all the hiccups it gets better. As long as the other person is worth your time and effort.
*the cows in colorful raingear bring battries flashlights and water*
See, it's that whole time and effort thing that's such a nuisance. The banal small talk. This is no fun at all. I've been on several dates over the past couple of weeks and so far, I think I'm just not the dating type of person. I tried to think of it as fun and having many options. I was all gung-ho to be out there playing the field. Then I remembered I don't like sports.
Matt, I hear you....been there, done that....then that special someone comes along and it all seems to fall into place. It's easier. I can't explain it, but you know when it happens.
So far, the options have been guys in open relationships or potentially have syphilis. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I imagined first dates completely differently.
Oh Matt I've been there. Wait until you go on a date with "mildly retarded" guy. I kid you not!
I think I already have. I just didn't want to say anything.
^^It's stuff like what you're going through, Matt, that keeps me from killing J2.^^
Seriously, though, I do feel your pain and all I can say is it sucks, and not in a good way.
