Oh, Jungle. I LOVE that song!
I may have to put on some Carpenters now... singing along to it will make the work that's waiting for me much more enjoyable!
I couldn't find the airplane video...
I used to have the Carpenters tribute album. It was fun...
DD - Is the tribute album the one that came out in the 90s called - "If I were a Carpenter"?
Here's another favorite of mine (one of the Carpenters' last hits) :
"Play us a song we can slow dance on
We want to hold each other
Play us a groove so we hardly move
Just let our hearts beat together
Oh, baby, `cause it feel so good
When we're close like this
Whisper in my ear and let me steal a kiss
Come on and touch me
When we're dancing
You know you've got that loving touch (loving touch)
Touch me when we're dancing
I want to feel you when I'm falling in love".
One of my favorites.............
I've been so many places in my life and time
I've sung a lot of songs I've made some bad rhyme
I've acted out my love in stages
With ten thousand people watching
But we're alone now and I'm singing this song for you
I know your image of me is what I hope to be
I've treated you unkindly but darlin' can't you see
There's no one more important to me
Darlin' can't you please see through me
Cause we're alone now and I'm singing this song for you
(*) You tought me precious secrets of the truth withholding nothing
You came out in front and I was hiding
But now I'm so much better and if my words don't come together
Listen to the melody cause my love is in there hiding
(**) I love you in a place where there's no space or time
I love you for in my life you are a friend of mine
And when my life is over remember when we were together
We were alone and I was singing this song for you
Yes Jungle. I loved it.
There was a Japanese all-girl band, Shonen Knife, that did an awesome cover of On Top of the World.
I always loved 'Yesterday Once More'
When I was young
I’d listened to the radio
Waitin’ for my favorite songs
Waiting they played I’d sing along
It made me smile
Those were such happy times
And not so long ago
How I wondered where they’d gone
But they’re back again
Just like a long lost friend
All the songs I loved so well
Every sha-la-la-la
Every wo-wo-wo
Still shines
Every shing-a-ling-a-ling
That they’re starting to sing’s
So fine
When they get to the part
Where he’s breakin’ her heart
It can really make me cry
Just like before
It’s yesterday once more
Lookin’ back on how it was
In years gone by
And the good times that I had
Makes today seem rather sad
So much has changed
It was songs of love that
I would sing to then
And I’d memorize each word
Those old melodies
Still sound so good to me
As they melt the years away
All my best memories
Come back clearly to me
Some can even make me cry
Just like before
It’s yesterday once more

One of my faves - the cover by Bonnie Bramlett is phenomenal!
Bonnie Bramlett is a blues singer who played the role of Bonnie the waitress on Roseanne - just an FYI. Lol
Long ago and oh so far away
I fell in love with you before the second show
Your guitar, it sounds so sweet and clear
But you’re not really here
It’s just the radio
(*) don’t you remember you told me you loved me baby
You said you’d be coming back this way again baby
Baby, baby, baby, baby, oh, baby, I love you I really do
Loneliness is a such a sad affair
And I can hardly wait to be with you again
What to say to make you come again
Come back to me again
And play your sad guitar
...and this song was one that my friends and I would always 'sing' to eachother:
Some sleepless night if you should find yourself alone
(*) Let me be the one you run to
Let me be the one you come to
When you need someone to turn to
Let me be the one
To set things right
When this whole worlds turned upside down
Repeat (*)
For love and understanding, to find a quiet place
For silent understanding, a loving touch
Come to me when things go wrong
And theres no love to light the way

Wow Addy - I don't know that one at all.
U..she gave such meaning to that song. It's such a beautiful song.
It was one of my faves, Cheeze.
She gave such meaning to so many of her songs - with her beautiful voice and phrasing.
Yes Addy..so true. I always thought that if I could hear angels singing they would sound like Karen Carpenter. You really felt the words she was singing in all of her songs.
That is such a beautiful thought, Boobs.
So Top of the World would be literal?

I have a sister in law who is slowly dying from years of bulemia and anorexia, so tragic.
So, you guys all know I'm a Euanaholic. All this talk of the Carpenter's reminded me of something I read on his site:
"I am very eclectic musically, and I hate music snobbery.
I think it is important to at least understand all types of music and one should never tell their fellow human beings that their taste in music sucks.
Think back to how all the songs you love have influenced your life...the soundtrack to a person's life is as valid as their fingerprint...on that note, I'm not going to force you to listen to any of these...but just know that they make me who I am...(especially The Carpenters)."

Ah - just got back from lunch myself and it is very hot out here. There are four cruise ships docked up the street - and traffic is crazy! I really wanted to sneak aboard one of them...but it was fun to look at them.
I hear ya... I'm having a very non-productive day.
I love watching the cruise ships on Elliot Bay. Not so wild about the number of people that take over downtown, but what'cha gonna do, right? The next three weeks can't go by fast enough.
What are you ripping, Cookie?
Boobs, I'm thinking of that song 'Rock and Roll Heaven' (not that Karen Carpenter was really rock&roll, but just all the glorious voices filling Heaven...)
Girly, I KNEW I liked that Euan guy.
brd, that's sad about your sister-in-law.
Flexibility is a good thing, Undi.
Cruise ships or the sailors, Cheeze?
Rath, hope you aced those tests!
And, hiya, Somms.
...did I miss anyone?
Just had a little excursion to Staples. I love that store.
