Posted: 1/17/09 at 8:37pmQ - I had no idea there was a marathon, or I would've been glued to the tv. Well ... it's sort of a rite between jS and I to have our own marathons with the dvds, so it would've been no fun with him away.

I'm having a slightly down night, but that's okay. Tomorrow will be better.

What if they ask me a REALLY specific question, such as
"How does Thomas Aquinas extrapolate on Aristotle's idea of the nutritive soul?"
I mean, I know my stuff, but that's the really hard one for me. Thomas Aquinas, I mean. The others aren't too bad. (Hippocrates, Epicurus, Galen).

Posted: 1/17/09 at 10:28pmWell, you just completely lost me. But, I have been in that state quite often.

Posted: 1/17/09 at 10:42pmYup! Apparently "everyone passes", but to me, I wanted to actually put effort into it and not just "do it".

Posted: 1/17/09 at 10:50pmSo, is there another test, or is this an oral exam, or what?

It's an Oral Exam.
"In order to qualify for graduation, all students in the the undergraduate program must successfully complete a final oral examination called the colloquium. The colloquium is an intellectual conversation among four people?the student, the student's adviser, and two other members of the faculty about a selection of books representing several academic disciplines and historical periods. The colloquium provides an opportunity for students to reflect on their concentrations and to synthesize various experiences studying books, taking courses, doing independent study and internships into an integrated discussion about several books and themes. In preparing for the colloquium, each student creates a book list of twenty to twenty-five works and writes a brief paper the rationale which describes the themes the student plans to discuss in the colloquium."

Ahhhh.
I have no doubt that you will be fine.
I never had to go through that, so I can understand your nerves, but you will blow them away.

Not familiar with that program. I was in a different one.
I just didn't want the name of my school to be in the post, so I deleted that.

It's scary, but exciting. You should see my book list.
1. Aristotle, De Anima
2. Aquinas, Thomas, A Commentary on Aristotle’s de Anima
3. Works of Hippocrates
4. Galen: On Diseases and Symptoms
5. Maimonides’ Medical Writings
6. Medicines of Early India (Translation by Lochan)
7. The Essential Epicurus
8. Erasmus’ In Praise of Folly
There's 12 more! But these are the bitchy ones for me.

Brd - I am so glad that I only had to do the bar exam once. It is a stupid test, and does nothing to demonstrate one's aptitude as a lawyer.
But, it is much easier to say that having passed it on the first try than if I had not.
And Shira, that is quite an amazing collection. I would be completely lost. You go girl!

Hah, thanks YWIW.
Now, can we all address the fact that I'm awake at 6 am? Why is my internal clock so mean?

Posted: 1/18/09 at 9:45amWhere did the freakin' snow come from?! Last I heard they were saying "possible" snow "squalls" in the afternoon. I didn't expect to wake up to find snow on the ground. Again.

Beautiful again here - but rain may come on Wednesday.
Zander did his evil dance and woke my up at 5:15 - but I kicked him out and just went back to bed.
He started with plopping down butt-first on my chest to sleep, and it went downhill from there.
Today is football and cleaning day.

Bonjour, Adults!
I'm finishing up my packing right now. Going back to school tomorrow, finally! I've enjoyed the break, but the last week or so ahs been riddled with tension. Dad got his hours majorly cut at work and Mom's stressed as hell. It's made living here a bit like living without arms: I feel helpless.

*hugs HUGS to DGG and her Dad*
It will be okay honey! I'm here for you, you can always live with me, for like, 3 days at a time!
Okay, I'm home. I'm going to try and relax tonight, as best I can. In the morning, I'm going to get a manicure, review my notes, and KICK ASS at my colloquium.
