Making flowers out of kleenex or tissue paper for dances or floats used to be a fun project for decorating various things.
pipe-cleaner "art"...
We didn't have ceramic in school, but I did paint my Mom a shell that she made into an ash tray. Mom's not here anymore , but that ash tray still is. I still smile when I see it because she always had to put something I made her to good use. She really didn't even smoke..she called herself a social smoker.
Undiscovered - Camp Francis in CT. A girl-scout camp...
Also worked at Camp Pathfinder, in Algonquin Park, Canada. A friend of mine owned it...it was BEAUTIFUL and way the hell out there. An island, no electricity or running water (except in the main mess hall). The lake was crystal clear and FREEZING. And I adored it! Saw the northern lights a few times. Breathtaking.
They were both sleep-away.
Used to wrap pipe cleaners around Kleenex and tissue paper to make those flowers.
boobs - that's it exactly. Pipe-cleaners and tissue paper.
My parents didn't smoke either (although Dad did the pipe thing for a bit), but they still have our crafty ashtrays...sweet.
Oh yes, pipe cleaner art - all the different twists and turns that those pipe cleaners could create. I didn't make an ashtray but I did paint and glaze a ceramic siamese cat with blue cut glass eyes that I still have with the date Dec 31, 1959 on the bottom.
It's so hard to describe exactly how beautiful the northern lights are. Definitly eerie!
We used to take our canoes out into the middle of the lake, and watch them...or, we'd just lie on our backs on the dock and look up at the sky for hours. SO many stars - unlike what I get to see here in NYC!!
Do we need a trip to see the Northern lights???? Road trip anyone???
...speaking of stars, it's shut-eye time for this old lady...
Mr. Sandman,
bring me a dream (bung, bung, bung, bung)
Make him the cutest
that I’ve ever seen (bung, bung, bung, bung)
.....
Yes - a road trip...as long as we can listen to the music from this thread all the way there!!!
I was just looking up at those stars a few nights ago out on the beach by a campfire. The stars seemed so bright and almost close enough to touch. I hated to go back into the cottage.
You're on Nyadgal. I'm making a CD right now of all these songs.
A mix-tape!
We'll make a mix-tape!!
LOL!
'night all.
Good night Nyadgal...sleep well.
Perry Como singing:
Catch a falling star
And put it in your pocket
Never let it fade away
Catch a falling star
And put it in your pocket
Save it for a rainy day
For love may come
And tap you on the shoulder
Some starless night
Just in case you feel
You want to hold her
You'll have a pocketful of starlight
Catch a falling star
And put it in your pocket
Never let it fade away
Catch a falling star
And put it in your pocket
Save it for a rainy day
For when your
Troubles start multiplying
And they just might
It's easy to forget them
Without trying
With just a pocketful of starlight
Catch a falling star
And put it in your pocket
Never let it fade away
Catch a falling star
And put it in your pocket
Save it for a rainy day

Art projects.
Did anyone do the project where you take crayons and draw all sorts of colored shapes, all size on a piece of poster board, then cover the entire think with black paint/ink. After it dries you use a thin blade and create a design by scratching away the black to reveal the colors underneath...
Does that make sense.

Summer arts and crafts projects:
We painted lots and lots of plaques and statuettes then fired them in a kiln. I can still smell the shellac.
We also did a lot of braiding, etc with thin colored plastic strips...boondaggle (Lanyards, gymp...)and created keychains and bracelets, etc.

banana seat bikes...
I always wanted one. My best friend got a pink one with flowers on the seat and a neat wicker basket.
I had my big bike...with a wire basket. I could go faster but I thought the little bike looked cooler.

Good Morning all...a song to start our Monday off with and I want to hear everyone singing:
Monday Monday, it was all I hoped it would
Monday Monday, so good to me,
be
Oh Monday morning, Monday morning couldn't guarantee
That Monday evening you would still be here with me.
Monday Monday, can't trust that day,
Monday Monday, sometimes it just turns out that way
Oh Monday morning, you gave me no warning of what was to be
Oh Monday Monday, how yould cou leave and not take me.
Every other day, every other day,
Every other day of the week is fine, yeah
But whenever Monday comes, but whenever Monday comes
You can find me cryin' all of the time
Monday Monday, so good to me,
Monday Monday, it was all I hoped it would be
Oh Monday morning, Monday morning couldn't guarantee
That Monday evening you would still be here with me.
Every other day, every other day,
Every other day of the week is fine, yeah
But whenever Monday comes, but whenever Monday comes
You can find me cryin' all of the time
Monday Monday, ...
A really great and relative to this thread article about the 70's in the Philadelphia Inquirer yesterday.
