Don't know. If the stories are anything like last night... Don't know if I'll make it tonight, but I hope it's there in the AM if I don't. Though, for some Southern Comfort, I may have to try extra hard.

Has anyone seen Nina today? She's usually around for a morning cup of coffee with me, but not this morning. I hope all is well. I hope she didn't get caught in that cross fire last night..I would've protected her if I had seen her here. Hmmm. Maybe she is busy today.

Yep... we supposed to abstain from coffee (even decaf) and tea (herbal is okay, especially for upset tummies), alcoholic beverages, and tobacco in all forms. The principle behind this teaching is to be healthy and avoid substances which can have harmful (or addictive) effects. We also are to avoid use of illegal drugs and the misuse/abuse of perscription drugs--but we definitely are not anti-medicine.

So, at LDS gatherings the water, fruit punch, lemonade and soft drinks flow freely... :o) Hot chocolate is fine, too and Wassel is often served during winter parties, too.

Avoiding coffee, alcohol, etc is part of our health code we call "The Word of Wisdom". It includes counsel to get exercise, get appropriate sleep, eat well, etc so we spiritual, mentally, and physically at our best and not beholden to a particular substance. This lifestyle means Church members are often asked to participate in medical studies of things like heart disease, cancer rates, etc.

Now...that doesn't mean we all are trim, fit, and ready for Olympic competition. LDS come in all shapes, sizes, etc. But the Word of Wisdom does help us remember the critical connection between the health of the body and spiritual, emotional, & mental well-being.
