And, I'm used to being teased about being a Latter-day Saint. We use LDS as a verbal "shorthand" and I get the LSD bit...

Plus, since I joined the Church 25 years ago, one of my brothers calls me "Mormon" or "Mormon Bates"...or "Bates"...I don't think I've heard him say my first name in a long, long, time. LOL! When I was serving as a missionary he did send a card occasionally and addressed it to me inserting "stormin' Mormon" as a middle name on the envelope. Ya gotta roll with it!

This brother is a scream. Very creative and quick-witted. When he speaks about me to my parents he refers to me as "your Mormon did this" or "your Mormon wants to do that..." And he says I'm a good sturdy "field Mormon" who can handle hard work.
He really is funny.

As loathe as I am to introduce things negative anywhere, I really want to express my sorrow about something, and there's no WAY I would trust putting it on the main board.

This situation in Chechnya is breaking my heart. I just sent my partner off for his first day back at school on Monday, so maybe that's why it's hitting me so hard. I can just imagine all these parents with their children showing up for their first day, new clothes and shiny hopeful expressions in place. And this horror that has descended upon them. I can't even imagine what anyone is thinking, no matter where they are.

What on earth has gone wrong with our species? How can we have gotten so completely lost that NOTHING is sacred anymore - anywhere? Really, it makes me hurt.

Ok, sorry to inflict that, but I'm just looking somewhere - anywhere - for a sign that people haven't completely lost their minds.

Yes, it is horrific. I am sick to my stomach about it and praying hard that the terrorists will just let those children go.

DG..you are not alone on this. I have such a soft spot for children especially. I never understood my mother's undying love for her children until the day the doctor placed my first son in my arms. You just want to protect them from all evil. It's a tough situation. All we can do is pray and hope for the best.

undiscovered - for a minute I thought I was reading one of the threads about the convention, then realized you were responding to my post

As was just said, we can pray, we can hope - and I firmly believe that by living our lives to a higher standard we can't do anything but elevate the overall value of everyone's existense on this planet.

It is just so hard to believe that so many humans can be so inhumane! The news is just so horrible the I can't watch the news.

I wish I had chocolate chip cookie dough with a vicodin in it while listening to Bush. As I sat here reading DGrant's post on the horrors of what is happening in Chechnya, I was hearing Dubya say that the world is a safer place because of the hard decisions he's had to make. It sickens me to listen to him.

Oh, Nina, let us not forget that he dodged the health care bullet by saying he wants to let people create privatized accounts.
I love it. Let's dodge the issue of providing quality care by letting YOU put your own money into something that might not work and will probably just fill the coffers of already-wealthy banks.
Yeah, that'll work. But we can't have socialized health care. Socialism is next to communism and we can't have our government getting bigger unless it's the military and military funding/spending.
