I just got back from the Keansberg boardwalk (Kind of the beginning of the Jersey Shore) - I went to get an Italian Ice and I asked the young girl if they still made Yum-Yum flavor..she looked at me like I was insane. Anyone??? Remember the flavor Yum-Yum. Thye don't make it anymore...boo-hoo
Gosh - yum-yum doesn't ring a bell -
but I loved those Ice-Pops - they were in plastic strips, and you put them in the freezer, and then took out one at a time and squeezed the frozen 'ice' out. They came in grape, orange, lime...

The princess phone...omigosh. The trimline.
And, THE decorating colors of the 70s: yellow, orange, brown and avocado green!
Typewriters:
I think my piano teacher knew when I'd been typing by the way I'd bang on the keys at lessons.
Ya know the other day a teenager came into my office and during their visit saw the small typewriter I have to do odd labels, and some 3-part forms. Its a basic, small electric typewriter (Canon?) Anyhow. This teen points at it and says: "What IS that thing?" Totally serious.
I wanted to club them but just smiled and gave a short explanation.

Candy necklaces...
Dum-Dum suckers...
And remember when your home phone had a DIAL...and so did the TV! Remember when TV was in black and white!
I remember when we got our first color TV...my Dad was so excited that we'd be able to see the colors when Dorothy lands in OZ the way he had seen it in the theatre.

70's decorating - I had shag carpet in my bedroom, and a rake!
Also, a beanbag chair!

At work the 'youngsters' frequently comment on my excellent typing skills - while they employ the hunt & peck method. I tell them that I learned in typing class in junior high - and they look at me like I'm from Mars!
I remember my 1st day in typing class in High-School, banging away on those keys (not even electric) and the bell kept going off after I typed only 3 letters because I didn't have my margin set right !!! I sweated through that class. The old bag of a teacher kept yelling "I hear dings before I should, who is that????"
candy neclaces!!
I would get one at the concession stand at the beach, and then forget and wear it in the water...and the colors would just run...

Shag carpeting. I was so jealous when my best friend had her room re-decorated and she got shag carpeting.
Bean bag chairs. LOL.
Typing apparently is not the term they use today. It's "keyboarding"... I say you haven't known pain until you've broken a fingernail by missing a key on a manual typewriter and jabbing your finger down in the space between the letters.

yeah - setting margins!
On my old typewriter there were actual tabs you had to slide...
oh, gosh, beacon - that is SO true! PAIN!!!
yea..those were the tabs I didn't know you had to set...I was late for class.
...or the emotional pain of getting the end of a long term paper, and messing up the typing and not having the correcting cartridge, so having to go back and re-type it all... Talk about pulling all-nighters in school - it usually had to do with typing!

using a slide rule -
remember flash cubes on cameras?
I had a groovy Kodak - and loved those 4-sided cubes that I could pop on and off the top!
Speaking of old bags...this one has to get to bed..More tomorrow...I'll take the early shift to make sure no young'erns sneak into this thread. The old hips just can't do Hula Hoops anymore. "Thanks for the memories..."
I'm not far behind you...just needed my memory 'fix' before tucking in.
beacon - you said it perfectly a few pages back - this thread really means something to me!
I can take to mid-day shift tomorrow if that works for you, but I think this last exchange might have really scared them off!! LOL!

I gotta sign off, too...but the camera thing brought back so many memories of those cubes.
And my parents had the kind that had the huge flash bulb and you held the camera and looked down into it. And when it went off it blinded you.
I'm the oldest child in my family and I think part of my aversion to having my picture taken comes from all those tons of photos of me taken with that huge bulb going off in my eyes.
Night everyone. "Talk" to you tomorrow... "Good night sweetheart well it's time to go..." :o)

I've been gone for awhile getting ready to go back to my hometown in southern Ohio. Speak about memories. It's their bicentenial celebration and I'm seeing all the relatives. Speaking about hula hoops, I still have one and use it for good excercise while I'm watching TV. My grandkids still like to play with it. I have to hide it from them sometimes. lol
I still have my manual typewriter! My oldest daughter loves it. She once told me theat it's a great feeling "just to rip out the page and ball it up when it just isn't sounding right!"
I also remember yun yum flavor!!
How about Button Candy? and Wacky Lips?

And "record players" that you set for 78, 33 1/3, and 45. And the "adapter" to instert in 45s so they'd slip onto the spindle.
And having to change the needles...
And records skipping, and skipping, and skipping...

Those little plastic 'bottles' filled with colored liquid...
We used to eat the wax bottles after we finished the liquid.
