Bboobs - I miss people dressing up for special occasions!
I remember when we would fly somewhere, my mother was always in a dress with stockings and pumps, my dad in a suit and my sister and I in dresses...
I used to love watching my mom get dressed up to go out - they had cocktail parties about every 10 minutes back then!
And Grandpa always wore a hat.
gee - I just saw that my last message about "parties with drinks" was automatically edited...
Now, that just goes to show you how times have changed!
ok, this is specific to a certain part of the country...
one man sleeps while the other man drives, on the non-stop lawson run...

NYadgal - I was just talking to my partner about missing the old moveable stairs that allowed people to disembark planes. I was always so excited waiting for my grandmother to appear in the doorway, and then smile and wave while she came down the steps. And yes, she was 'dressed for travel'
How about wearing Dad's aftershave...Old Spice and British Sterling...I can still smell them.
Mom's expensive bottle of Channel#5...only for "special" occassions.
Mom's charm bracelet only worn to weddings.
Her falls..now they call them extensions for the hair.
dad's hai karate cologne
I remember my dad smoked a pipe - and I used to love the big can of tobacco - and getting to 'tamp' it for him when he put it in his pipe... I guess people who smoke pipes still do that, but I don't know any.
Dad's cologne and Mom's perfume. Dad wore Old Spice and Mom had Chanel for special, but wore Lily of the Valley for everyday...
Airport memories are another chapter! I loved being able to greet people as they walked down the plane steps. And I still have my Pan Am flight bag that I got for my first flight...
Chanel #5 was very special to mom becasue it was their highest number.
Mamma would wear her fall that gave her the Marlo Thomas That Girl look, the Cleopatra eye liner over the blue eye shadow and her frosted lipstick and she was set to go out on the town.
My Mom had fabulous matching dress and coat sets - and pillbox hats. Very Jackie-O.
Remember wearing white gloves? It was always so special - as a little girl, I loved getting a new pair, and Mom would wear them, too.
How about when people got married and everyone went to the church...not just to the reception.
Here is one for tose of us who "grew up Catholic"
Wearing veil to Mass on Sunday and no breakfast before Mass as well!
Oh yeah and Masses were in Latin!
I still do that (go to the Church for Weddings)!
And hate it when others don't - or wear jeans to church and then go change for the Reception. Tacky!!
I remember in Elementary School petitioning the principal to let girls wear pants! All we ever wore were skirts or dresses - with shorts for gym day.
Finally, when I was in 5th grade, the principal allowed girls to wear pantsuits to school. I had such a great collection of plaid pantsuits for years after that!!
(I was quite the little "women's-libber" - I also went to the Bishop to demand that I be an Acolyte after I was confirmed in 6th grade because I didn't understand why only boys were allowed - and became the first female Acolyte in the Episcopal Church in all of Connecticut! My Mom was so proud!!)
I went to a Catholic grammar school and when we went to church with our class if the girls forgot their beanies that matched their uniform they would take a tissue and fix it to their heads with a bobby pin...why didn't I find this funny back then???
I loved Bella Abzug's hats!
Speaking of Gunsmoke....did you see Festus was just arrested for shooting 2 people in CA. One of them was killed!
I thought Festus was dead by now.
I thought he was too....but there is a picture of him on netscape.com
it was concho, not festus. robert sorrells was arrested. festus was ken curtis who died in 1991. festus also used to be the vocalist for the tommy dorsey orchestra.
Does anyone remember the shows Shindig and Hullabaloo? I learned to gogo dance by watching those shows when I was a kid.
you are absolutely correct papa...I stand corrected....I need to change my glasses again! damn!
American Bandstand and Soul Train!
Colorforms!
hours and hours of fun and no 'technology' at all!
mom - loved Barry Manilow's song "Bandstand"!
Amercian Banstand and Michael Jackson made his debut on there....makes you wonder...WHAT THE H*LL HAPPENED!?!?
