I treated Pip very kindly and explained to him that I was keeping him safe from harm. He understood that and didn't mind the shackles.

Just ask him. He's fully memorized the appropriate response and can recite it now without that catch in his voice.

I remember memorizing something...but whatever you gave me made me forget the shackles...and what's the point of that???

If I do the barista a special favor or two I can usually get him to whip up something special...like gingerbread latte or peppermint mocha...
