Do you think it's a little hypocritcal? To get presents and celebrate a holiday you don't believe in?
I get Chanukah presents and Christmas presents (my dad is Catholic). Not sure how I feel about that, but since we're there with his Catholic family, why not recieve presents?
Depends. I think Christmas has been bastardized to the point where presents aren't given out of recognition of any religious event, but simply as a symbol of a saturated commercialized holiday. so I don't think it's hypocrtical. Now, if Delph goes to Mass and says prayer and is an atheist...
As I said, Christmas is a family holiday for me. What I like about Christmas way more than the presents is driving around in the car with the heater on looking at the lights with my family, or going to San Francisco for Christmas Day with my family. It's just a great time for us to be together.
Giving and receiving gifts is simply part of the package. It's the one time of year that we have the chance to give each other something.
And if we are really going to get into the hypocrisy of it all, why don't Christians donate money to the church, or give all their gifts to the poor, or volunteer at a homeless shelter or a children's hospital instead of giving ourselves gifts? That's what Jesus was all about, right? And aren't we supposed to be celebrating Jesus's life and following in his footsteps?
And Tiff, I don't go to Mass anymore. I finally broke down and started crying while we were all praying. I couldn't pray and sing and whatever to something I don't believe exists. And that was the end of that.

That works. I was afraid you'd be one of those, 'I don't follow the family religion, I do my own thing' but they go to church and take any presents they're given for holidays. I know Wiccans like that, they just want to seem cool. They really don't practice or care about their religion. If you stick to what you say you will, that's cool.
Thank you. I try to be respectful of other people's religions.
(Except for Mormons when they are being obnoxious.)

Rock on. I don't try to convert people and I hope they don't try to change me.
I don't know any Mormons.
Finally someone else uses the term "rock on"! I feel so lame when I say it (which is ALL THE TIME), especially when people tell me not to say it. America.
And yes, that whole "come to my religion or burn in Hell" stuff really gets to me, so I try not to push my views on people. If I am asked my religious status, I will answer, and explain if needed. But I'm nothing like some people I know who absolutely shove their religion down your throat. Luckily that doesn't happen too often.
Some of the nicest people I know are Mormons. They are the last people I would say are annoying. No, they don't practic polygamy, but they do have very large families. Most families couldn't handle haveing 7 or 8 children, but they can. All of the kids never curse, do exactly as they are told, have extremely good grades, and are some of the sweetest people I've met. Maybe I'm just lucky, but my impression of mormons is very good, and I sort of wish more people were like that

Sounds very not like me, Glory, aside from the grades.
Do you still like me anyway?
Mormons seem to be generally nice people. I just wish they'd stop ringing my doorbell.

Haha of course Not saying I dont like anyone who doesn't match that desciription... I myself am far from that (and I don't really care). I was just giving my 2 cents on Delph's comment about mormans being annoying... and yes the ones trying to convert people ARE annoying, but you can't hold it against the whole religion because not everyone is like that (and now that I read her recent post she seems to agree so nevermind)
and why must you continue questioning whether I like you or not? You get offended by almost everything I say! Maybe I should start being offended by the fact that you dont trust me!

Don't be offended! I was just checking!
Sorry, Glory! I didn't mean to be offensive. I was just joking around. As I said, Mormons seem to be very nice people. I just don't like their method of converting people. Fortunately, that wave has passed.
Didn't intend to sound offended... just expressing an opinion... which is the point of the OT boards
And I'm jewish/christian. So say what you please about mormons haha...

I know I know... don't worry about it just pointing it out

Should I be offended by the eyeroll?
preferably, no.
But you can decide for yourself...
*bump* The 4 hour test sucked. I didn't understand any of the Hebrew. I did A B C D C B A and so on. I hate the BJEs.
Tests suck. I got to a Catholic school (though I don't consider myself any religion), and my mom kept pressuring me to go to an all girls Catholic highschool, which I didn't want to. And there's this admissions test that I DID NOT want to take, so I didn't tell my mom that the money was due... so I got out of taking this like, 5 hour test.
Then I hate the tests where they don't teach you the material, yet they expect you to know it. I totally understand, MFL- ABCDCBA is a good approach!
Thanks! We had a prep course for the test but didn't learn everything. But I did really well on the English so I should get a good mark. Smart idea! I wish I had thought of that...

whoa what's with the title? i have to catch myself up.
I know tons of mormons.. Some good, some bad.. I hate the holier than thow ones that look at you like you are the spawn of the devil for your individuality and not being a conformist.. I also know a lot that are dang layed back.. As for then knocking on your door, the easiest way to get rid of a missionary is to tell them you aren't interested and DO NOT come back.. most of them are pretty respectful, you just can't be wishy washy with them.. if they see even the slightest of windows, they will try to take it.. Just be firm and they should go away..
Today at church for the homily, the preist told us about how he recently went to New York and saw a Broadway musical called Wicked
omg, no
and then he told us all about this musical called Wicked, and he taught us that "people aren't born Wicked, but they have Wickedness thrust upon them" Ahhhhhh!!!
Bump.
'Ello, lovelies! How is your weekend going so far?
