Hello Ladies & Family Tree Canceled; Getting On Likely Renewed
We can say good riddance to the terrible Hello Ladies and dour Family Tree. I love Christopher Guest but that show was completely unwatchable. And I think the lesson from Hello Ladies is that Stephen Merchant can't carry a show.
Happy to see that Getting On still has a shot because it really found its groove by the end of the season.

I wanted to like Hello Ladies but felt a little too wide-eyed, outsider of LA, which has been done a million times before. The only downside is that Jenny Slate is not getting a solid paycheck, but she'll probably be back on her feet soon enough.
Didn't bother watching Family Tree.
Getting On got good word of mouth and anything is possible in a world where Enlightened got a second season.

HBO really is cleaning house. All but one of their Dramas (Game of Thrones) have been cancelled as well. Boardwalk Empire, True Blood, and the Newsroom are all on their last seasons coming up, and Treme was also cancelled.

And, yeah, the outsider in LA thing is really overdone. Hey, Andy Richter learned his place in the universe... eventually.

drew, they have TRUE DETECTIVE coming on to rave reviews this year already and will be premiering the Damon Lindelof/Tom Perrotta THE LEFTOVERS in the fall. Plus they have four drama pilots currently ordered (including a J.J. Abrams-WESTWORLD reboot, Nathan Lane in a new David Milch project and a "provocative" drama from Ryan Murphy), I don't think anyone in their right mind should be worried about HBO's drama lineup.
I will mourn a little for FAMILY TREE; it wasn't great but over time I managed to watch it all and it grew on me. The last episode had some delightful little romantic graces and, while I'm not surprised it's short-lived, it was always easy to watch if unremarkable.
