I've just seen the previews to Cate Blanchett's new film "Little Fish"- she play's this emaciated, scabby heroin addict and looks totally amazing. As apparently she is. So not what I was expecting after her Hepburn turn- I've got to go and see it.

So she IS extending enough on her follow thru.....
She is SO frigging versatile...I was so surprised by her performance in Shipping News - (a horrible film, but she is awesome in it)...and by the horsey quality of her character in The Talented Mr. Ripley - she just changes like a chameleon!

She's very much like Madonna in that way. And David Bowie.

The whole cast of "Little Fish" has been getting raves though- Martin Henderson is better than he's ever been and Hugo Weaving is apparently, well, "astonishing" was the word used. and Cate is nothing if not versatile.
She was stunning in Elizabeth.
That entire moving is amazing.

Elizabeth is indeed a wonderful movie. That was the first thing I'd seen her in and I was totally blown away. I also loved her in Veronica Guerin (sp?).

She's one of, if not the, best working actresses in Hollywood today.
My favorite Blanchett film is The Gift. It was that film that really made me notice her range and versatility. And I LOVED Shipping News. I thought it was a fascinating film.
The Gift seems to be a very little known film - but we rented it and loved it. I don't know why I didn't like The Shipping News - but it was just so depressing and didn't seem to go anywhere - but the performances were all fine.

I liked her in that film where she played the Bonnie Tyler fan... what was it? Bruce Willis was in it.
Darling, you're NOBODY in this business until you play a drug addict. A lift of the martini glass to Ms. Blanchett!
She's brilliant. I'm one of the few who thought (no, knew) that she deserved the Oscar for The Aviatior.
Another Melbourne girl(along with (Dame Edna, Rachel Griffiths, Zoe Caldwell) has done well!

She was easily the best thing about The Aviator- without her I might have dozed off half an hour in instead of holding on until the credits.

The Aviator was a snooze fest. Scorsese-shmorsese. I turned that film off when Cate disppeared.
Cate Blanchett is just genius.
The Aviator, on the other hand, is definitely NOT genius.
I LOVE watching her short in Coffee and Cigarettes :0)

I just read one review of "Little Fish" that said Cate was too beautiful to play a heroin addict...she looks like she's down playing the looks to me in the shorts.
How can one be too beautiful to play a heroin addict?...only ugly people become addicted to heroin?

I know. Ridiculous. I've known some very pretty smack addicts.
