Posted: 8/22/04 at 1:04amOkay, I'm sure this has been asked, and if it is just provide me with the previous thread. Okay, I've found some good, cheap eateries in the theater district, but only a few that I've seen too much of lately. What/where is a good cheap eatery in NYC in theater district-y area. If it isnt in the theater distrct that's okay--any new idea is a good one. Thanks!

Corine beat me to it on the Edison Cafe - love their matzo ball soup!
There's always the infamous Tad's Steaks - a relic from the 60's that still attracts mostly foreign tourists. The steaks aren't high quality, but the barbequed chicken is good.

Oh! I love the Edison. They treat you like family.
I hangout there pretty often.
The soup is great in the winter. I love the Greek Salad.
Just don't order the fountain soda.

Don't forget some great places like Galaxy on 46th/9th and Renaissance on 50th/51st and 9th. Also there's some other places that are not super cheap but affordable, like Vynyl on 54th and 9th (notice the 9th ave trend here?). 9th ave is full of great places to eat and is really becoming the midtown haunt for people who are tired of dealin with the resurging crack whores/pimp daddies who are hanging out on 8th ave again (especially over by Milford Plaza...that used to be ok when the Nazi, I mean Guiliani, had 5 policemen on every corner).

Another great place for a cheap drink is the Doubletree Hotel happy hour.
It is on the 5th floor and you will be sitting in a theater exhibit of sorts. It is fun.

That was a bit delayed.
But I would like to know what's wrong with the fountain soda.

Europa Cafe, 43rd/Broadway. I love it, it's a small soup/salad/sandwich place and is pretty cheap for NYC.
If worst comes to worse, there's a hot dog vendor on every corner.

The fountain machine does not work the syrup is messed up and it is terrible.
When you go to Edison ask for a soda in a can or bottle.

Posted: 9/17/04 at 9:07amFor SUPER cheap mexican - go to Fresco Tortillas on 9th avenue (approximately 54th street) you can get a plate of rice, black beans and chicken for just under $3.00...better than taco Bell!

I just grabbed a quick bite at John's Pizzeria Wednesday night before going back to see Dracula. For the price and location, I thought it was great! I learned about it through another thread on this board. I go to the theatre often. I can't believe I never heard of this place before. Thanks to whoever suggested it. I'll definitely be going back.
Ebonic... it's on 44th St., just up the street from Ollies heading toward 8th Ave. Right next door to "The Producers".
