THAT SUCKS! There are others in the city, though I'm sure. So sad it went out in times square...who replaced them?
(you can tell i havent been to the city in more than a year)

The best one is on the East side on 72ND Street.
I used to love them. Not anymore.

Posted: 9/17/04 at 1:00pmAVOID AT ALL COSTS the fast-food faux Japanese place on 42nd between Broadway (not 7th, Stacie) and 8th. It is PUTRID! I think the "beef" with vegetables was lung or stomach lining. I think it was the most repulsive food I have ever encountered. We only stopped there because it was cheap and open after midnight. Starving is a far more appealing option.

Virgil's is much better and more expensive.
It is owned by the owners of Ollie's.
They are also the owners of Carmine's.

Virgil's is indeed better however it's still not great. If you're looking for a good BBQ place in NYC you'd best look elsewhere.
IMHO the best BBQ is Blue Smoke.

Steve Hanson owns it? Are you sure?
I love his restaurants, although Ocean Grill was below his standards this week. In fact, the sushi was mediocre.

Danny Meyer is great. I love his restaurants and his wife used to own a great store on Columbus Avenue years ago.

Daisy Mae's is INCREDIBLE!
My office has catered from there before. The BEST Q I've had in a LOOOOOONG time!

how about some great bakeries? i love cake!
i've been to a bunch... and magnolia bakery was soooo cool and the cupcakes were very pretty.

The Little Pie Company has the BEST Sour Cream Apple Pie and the moistest Carrot Cake. They have several locations throughout the city including one conveniently located in Grand Central Station.
I think Magnolia is a little over rated and I'm not a fan of buttercream. The cupcake factory is good.
