It's from last year… but still.

So I can't go as an Indian. Can I go as a Cowboy?

One year I wore a Hooters t-shirt and a name tag that said "Some Straight Guy" and I kept my ass crack exposed all day. A sensitive barista saw it and said "ouch." I didn't realize it might have been because I appropriated his culture.
These people piss me off so much because a lot of what they have to say is valid, they just find the most annoying and preachy way to say it. Also, the phrase "check your privilege" makes me immediately want to slap the person who says it.
There's always a loophole. You can't dress as a cowboy or an Indian, but if a group of you dress up as The Village People, you're fine.

Cowboys are fine. Just white dudes shouldn't be Black Bart from Blazing Saddles.

To be fair, nobody would know you're appropriating. You could just be a Muslim lady shopping.
So- if nobody else knows- it doesn't count.
( like the tree in the forest which, by the way, does make a sound when it falls)
Where is the line? If, lets say, I wanted to go as a charater from a Noh play, is that racist? Or because I am not Japanese it would be considered racist? What is an African American Child wanted to be a Geisha? Racist?
So I suppose I have to retire my Joan Crawford-in-Torch-Song get-up?
And I suppose my Judy-Garland-in-Everybody-Sing is definitely de trop.
I guess I shouldn't go as this then either.
....I give to you Mr. Mickey Rooney as Mr. Yunioshi in Blake Edwards' BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S
Marlon Brando in TEAHOUSE OF THE AUGUST MOON
All right, gang, I think we have the makings of next year's BROADWAYWORLD POLITICALLY INCORRECT HALLOWEEN PARTY...
I guess Lady Carolyn Lamb is a no no too?

Somebody on the Kardashians got in trouble for dressing like an Arab sheik.

Next year I am going as a Black Indian Princess Geisha for Halloween!
YES! Shirley and all her past lives! Is that racist?

I once dressed up as Simba from the Lion King. As I am neither African nor a lion, I must be racist
