Man, this girl is probably the most unpopular student at the school after this. These people shouldn't be allowed to breed.

The worst part to me is that school systems always take this type of nonsense seriously.
"they are forming a committee to investigate the complaints"
Here it is, the girl thinks the book is in favor of book burning and "stopped reading".
The dad is nonsensical.
Neither has even read it.
Investigation over, conclusion- stupidity is rampant, all books should be removed.

book and - to an extent - the ideas that they represent are the root of all evil.
that is all.

True 'ambo. Evil, pure evil.
Could we also please have someone sit all people down in a room and explain that not everything that happens in a book is what the book is actually supporting.
Of course if the book were trying to support book burning as a viable option, there is even more reason to read it.
Baby steps though.

I love how, before the words idiot, control freak, fundamentalist, extremist, activist or any other kind of reasonable word came to mind, this person is one other than a - Christian.
I'm a Christian. Doesn't mean I'm backward or in favour of banning books. It just means that was the way I was raised. It doesn't really reflect well on who I am, what I like or how I live.
Perhaps the video's title is more appropriate than the title of this thread.

our sky-blue slates are steaming in the sun,
our yachts tinkling and dancing in the bay

shining windows, a future forbidden to no one.

Posted: 8/4/08 at 10:29amI used the word as a singular. Its too bad but Radical Christians have taken over. I know REAL Christians and they are good people. Sad, but they are in the minority. It was a Christian who wanted this book banned. Notice, I didn't say 'Christians'.

Penguin, it is standard operating procedure for any school district in this situation, as it covers their ass.
Any school district in this situation has a similar SOP.
Few books are actually banned, as I am sure every library in the area is raising Hell over it.
It is ironic, that someone wants a book banned that is about banning/destroying books.
There are morons everywhere.

Posted: 8/4/08 at 5:14pmShe wants it banned because in it, the Bible is burned? If she had any f*ckin' brain, she'd know that the book is against the concept of burning the Bible.

Also, I love that she admits she only read the first few pages. Does she (and her yokel father, for that matter) realize that a book can present certain issues (bible burning) without promoting the issue? For all she knows, the rest of the book could have been pro-Jesus.
Lord, it baffles me.

Elphaba, I had forgotten that was SOP. (Being married to a librarian I should remember these things.)
It still bothers me just as much that taking these nonsensical requests seriously is SOP. It is a fundamental waste of time and resources, and more often than I care to think about the board does decide to pull the book.

Dawn Davenport had the right idea:
I won't have you
nagging me for lunch money
and whining for help
on your homework.
There is no need to know
about the Presidents, wars,
numbers, or science.
Just listen to me,
and you'll learn.
And no little friends
over here repeating rhymes...
asking flippant questions,
and talking in those
nagging baby voices.
Can't you just sit there
and look out into the air?
Isn't that enough?
Do you always have to
badger me for attention?

I could have deliberated for a week and not come up with a better name for such a yokel.

Well if a lot of people are signing the petition to keep the book, maybe Texas isn't as socially backwards as we all think it is.
And you know something else? The book can also be....a hat :)
