When she first spoke during that SATC skit, I almost fell to the floor laughing. She was histerical!
And when I first saw her during that "Do You Know Who My Father?" is skit, I thought she was going to be playing Paris Hilton. That would have been funnier than the way the skit was played out. I missed the last 10 or 15 minutes because I fell asleep, but I thought the beginning was nice when she sang the entire song of Beautiful without any music.

HAHAHA what about that skit when it was supposed to be Christina after a concert, and a bunch of people come back stage to meet her. She was stupid in the skit, but eveyone else was funny. lol Keenan playing Star Jones, and then everyone referring to her new finacee as Stedmon (sp?)...Oprah's boyfriend.

Christina was great as Samantha, but I also loved how Carrie was dressed in every hideous piece of clothing in the last scene where she was typing on her laptop. The whole skit had me laughing out loud. Finally, something truly funny on SNL.

Dear, sweet, cabaret-damaged, delusional Anthony. The new Fanny Brice has been on SNL for a couple of seasons now and her name is Maya Rudolph.

Aguilera usually makes my teeth ache, but I gotta admit she was pretty damn funny on SNL. Onward and upward, dear!

I thought SNL was so funny with her. Even though I don't agree with everything Christina does, at least she can actually sing...unlike certain other nameless pop stars today.

I can't stand Christina Agulira at any other time but she was funny on the show last night. Other then the skit where she was being her self. But the rest of the time I enjoyed the show a lot actually and I really didn't expect to.

Oh Namo, put down that twinkie...yes yes, the chocolate milk as well ...yes, that's it, love....and listen...

... the very very talented Miss. Rudolph lacks the voice as well as the ability to use it every night...

8 shows a week...I think not...

where X-Tina could sing holding onto a rope and swinging from building to building....Her first tour had her literally doing 5-6 shows a week...

and darling, just rest, the buzz has been really strong over her SNL gig ..all over the worldwide musical community....I know how fustrating that must be....

Hey, maybe Christina can have a part in either the current Chicago, or the yet-to-be revival of Sweet Charity (not playing Charity of course). lol
I just picture her in something with Fosse dancing.

Because God forbid a talented stage performer play the part. Don't ever let a hard-working Equity performer steal a part from a multimillionaire lyp-syncing pop star! Bernadette Peters should NEVER be cast in another show! That part belongs to Beyonce! It's not enough that stage performers are underpaid for the love of their art. They can do enough of that in regional theatre. Give all the pop stars all the leads and all the money and never let another *shudder* stage performer do anything better than chorus. I don't care how long they've actually trained or how much experience they have. None of them deserve a chance at success. Ever! Who's insane idea was it to open Urinetown and Avenue Q WITHOUT top 40 singers with no acting experience and money to burn?

Oh wait. I'm not voiceanth. I think that's a load of crap. There's a lot more to performing a role as huge as Fanny Brice or Evita than just singing (I think Madonna proved that pretty well). But first, you have to stop watching MTV and pay attention.

Matt, your right, Bernadette Peters should play Evita...or Fanny...that way she can RUIN yet another show in the name of being a "theatrical legend"...

Let's go three for three!

and that show will then pull in a star from another medium who will humiliate Bernadette by giving twice the performance she did..

... just like Reba ..

Or did Reba suck too because she's on TV...and has made the dreaded videos!

If that's the case, you may wanna talk to Barbara Cook who refered to Reba NOT Bernadette as giving one of the 5 greatest musical comedy performances she had ever seen...

You see, an OPEN MIND MATT can lead to wonderful things!!

and honey, Bernadette, underpaid...please!!

I suppose Matt And Nate are underpaid as well...! Updated On: 2/23/04 at 07:40 PM

I also think Reba was better for that role. She also had some acting experience under her belt before she tackled the part. And I think Matt and Nathan are quite overpaid, but it doesn't mean I think Justin Timberlake, Brittany Spears or Christina Aguilera deserve Broadway leads either. For that matter, I don't think Federika Von Stade (she's an opera singer) belongs in A Little Night Music if she can't act (I saw it and she can't). Personally, I believe there are thousands of actors perfect out there for those roles who should be given the chance. As an actor and director, I have a very open mind when it comes to casting. I even like some of their music, but it doesn't mean I think they belong in a musical.

So you trust the opinion of Barbara Cook? But she's never had a music video on MTV. Oh that's right....MTV didn't exist back then. How did Broadway survive nearly a century without it?

For someone who is so concerned for the future of Broadway, you have no respect for the actors that made Broadway possible. Have you ever noticed how stunt casting is mostly used after the show has had a long run as a last resort? Without legit actors such as Heather Headley, Adam Pascal, Bebe Neuworth, Ann Reinking, James Naughton, Robert Cuccioli, Bernadette Peters, Susan Egan and Anthony Rapp, your teen idols and pop stars would have no character shoes to try to fill.

Believe me, I am well aware your mind is WIDE OPEN. I can hear the wind from here.

Once again: your and you're - it's not that difficult

I wish I could be just like you MATT and live sleep and eat Broadway 24/7...big dummy that I am.

But unfortunately there are other things that peak my interest as well such as the opera (my first love), ballet, hockey...my own life!????

I wish I could see Bebe Neuwirth croak her way through another vocal disaster of a performance every day of my life but I just can’t…

And …. I also wish my opinion was a little more tweaked… as I was only able to see almost every musical that has opened on Broadway from 1978 till now ..with some major exceptions (my parents thought DREAMGIRLS would be “unacceptable”) but ooops..silly me…

And darling, what I think of you wouldn’t have a you’re or a your as the first word but just a…

You are a ………

I am not your darling, nor will I ever be. Nor do a live, sleep, and eat Broadway 24/7. That is merely your own assumption and once again, youhave merely fabricated facts based on your own opinion. I'm very happy for you and your other interests. Perhaps you should talk about them instead. Congratulations for having seen so many Broadway shows. I'm not exactly sure why you wasted so much money and time on something you care so little about. Or if you hate certain performers so much, why you go see them perform.

And by the way, your (note spelling) habit of using cutesy names for those you are attempting to bash in order to attempt a position of lofty superiority really doesn't work and lowers you to a far less respectable position. You may want to try something else. But that was a brilliant strategic move to totally avoid discussing the topic at hand within a flurry of immature and unintelligent remarks.

"You are a ………

As a matter of fact, I think I will......a wonderful and amazing, not to mention brilliant, talented, and gorgeous, human being!

Thanks voiceanth, I feel better now. And I just adored Bebe when I saw her in previews for Chicago. She was simply delightful and sounded great!

OK, for the record, Christina Aguilera doesn't lip-Synch. Just because Britney Spears does, doesn't mean that every pop star is the same way. And why do you assume that pop stars can't act? Hmmm, I'm pretty sure Cher won an Oscar for her acting abilities...and UH! She lip-syncs all the time!

You want sarcasm, ok:
Gee, let's let every unknown actor/singer take over every Broadway show from now on and eventually Broadway will be extinct because tourists like to see a show with someone they recognize. Just because those of us (and not even everyone) here will see a show even if their is not a big name attatched, does not mean the larger majority is open to the idea. If someone is paying $100 a ticket, they want celebrities. Plus, not every "celebrity" is bad. Melanie Griffith just gives them a bad reputation.
Urinetown and Avenue Q were completely different types of shows all together...and even Urinetown was trying to bring in some celebrities.

I never implied that every celebrity is bad. My point was that if there are thousands of wonderful actors out there, why cast a pop star who doesn't have the training or ability to act a convincing performance eight shows a week. True, Cher won an Oscar after she had already trained and performed previously in other roles. I don't care if she lip-syncs or not because she's not attempting to perform a musical 8x a week. Urinetown did try to bring in some celebrities. Celebrities with acting experience. Most shows have successfully run without celebrities. It's very rare that a show hinges on the casting of a celebrity. Boy From Oz and the recent revival of Nine are exceptions to the rule. Just look at Wicked, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, Avenue Q, Urinetown, Rent, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, 42nd Street, A Chorus Line, Cats, Smokey Joe's Cafe and countless other shows that survived healthy long runs before a celebrity was ever dropped in the mix.

Unlike what voiceanth had stated in this and another thread, I don't believe the future of Broadway hinges on the casting of teen idol pop stars to replace stage actors. I find it insulting to the thousands of actors who have trained all their lives for these opportunities that are freely handed out to bored pop singers because they have no faith or respect in the shows they are producing.

If I'm paying $100 a ticket, I want a quality show. Not some gimmick just to get me through the door.

My name is Matt and I am a theatre-going American.

*Stands up and applauds....tears streaming down face*
And that's not sarcasm.

I do agree with you that it isn't fair that things are handed to them on a silver platter; but I also don't think it's fair to be angry with them for taking the role. Perhaps they just want to broaden (sp?) their horizons.
Just because someone trains all their life and wants to be an actor, doesn't mean they should be. Some people are just not good no matter how hard they try; but, everyone at least deserves the chance to try...and that includes people who are primarily singers but may want to act.

You're absolutely right. I'm not mad at the performers at all. But I don't believe that Deborah Cox or Joey Fatone or Sebastian Bach or Toni Braxton were the best possible choices for the roles. If you've ever attended a Broadway audition, you'll know that the competition is incredibly fierce with hundreds of unbelievably talented people. And that's just the chorus calls! It's not so much a talent pool as it is a talent ocean. It's true that some non-famous actors are miscast in shows, but I'd feel better knowing they took a chance on an unknown than deliberately placing a "name" in the lead just to take our money.

How do you think baseball fans would react if the Astros replaced their pitcher with Tom Brady because their ticket sales were down? Sure, he's not a baseball player, but he was MVP at the Superbowl. Theye're both sports, after all. Who cares if the season suffers, as long as we sell more tickets.
