I think this is GREAT! Wouldn't it be nice if First Lady Michelle Obama came out and supported gays like Cindy? Question is,why is Cindy only now showing support? I guess she was advised NOT to show support during the campaign.

Her daughter has been very strong advocate for same-sex marriage. I have read that Cindy's company routinely supports LGBT events in Arizona. So, I do not doubt that she is sincere.

I tend to think she (like Laura Bush) is politically left of her husband.

Who cares WHY she did it? She did it before our President came out and said ANYTHING about it. And it might not have been before the election but it's while there is a major case in the Supreme Court.
Even if it was some evil scheme cooked up by the GOP...it still shows how much Obama..and many other high profile democrats...suck.

Quite simply, I wouldn't trust this woman as far as I could throw Rush Limbaugh. I never believe it when Republicans claim to be in favor of same sex marriage, or claim that they never really liked George W. Bush, or thought that torture was a bad idea all along, or just generally pretend that they aren't the the living embodiments of pure evil. They all tend to have these liberal-type feelings just exactly when they're not in a position to do anything about it.

I guess she might be sincere, of course. I don't have any particular knowledge in that area. But she's going to have to prove it. Let her appear at a few Gay Rights events, and cough up a huge financial contribution, and I'll start thinking that there's more to this than a photo-op for a botoxed old junkie who's looking to piss off her husband and get some media attention.

And it is hardly surprising that Michelle Obama hasn't come out in favor of same sex marriage. She's clearly opposed to it, just like her husband, the Bigot In Chief.

Surely, even if she IS bluffing...it doesn't really matter? She's said it now and she'll have to maintain this standpoint to prevent being called up on lying, so effectively it might as well be her real opinion.

I understand it's hard not to be cynical when politicians and co. pull stunts like this, but at the end of the day...even if it's a hollow gesture, it's better than nothing...like say, Obama and his camp.

Has Cindy ever said anything negative about gay people? Does she have a bad track record when it comes to gay issues? I mean, I can see you being angry with Obama Roscoe but when someone DOES come out and tries to do something good you question that as well? There's no way to win with you. Why does she have to prove herself and I'll ask again, exactly what does she have to gain for pretending to like gay people and be for marriage equality?

I googled Cindy McCain anti gay and only came up with her marriage equality campaign. If she has done or said anything that can be considered anti gay,I for one would like to know. I'll ask again,what do you know about Cindy's history with gay people that I don't? Oh, and how is Cindy being for marriage equality even remotely close to be compared to OJ giving a donation to battered women.I mean, really? Seriously?Horrible comparison.

How can we make this world a little bit better with people constantly questioning everyone's intentions? If Obama came out tomorrow in support of gay marriage and admitted he was wrong and did away with DADT and became the most gay friendly president in US history I feel he would still be criticize and every move he made would be second guessed. So, there is no way to win and no use in engaging in a dialogue with those who are close minded.

Well, romantico, I think that's a bit silly. I care what her motives are. I will continue to be suspicious of all who have ever been members of the Republican establishment who suddenly announce that they have markedly liberal views that they kept completely under wraps until after they were in a position of influence. I'm sure if you google Cindi McCain and "Pro-Gay" you'll find only this single photo.

Sorry folks, but it is going to take more than an airbrushed photo op to get my respect on this issue. I want to see some real commitment to the issue, and some substantial cash donations to the cause, and even a Cindi McCain Institute For Marriage Equality. Until I see that, I ain't buying it. And to be fair, even then I'd still wonder what she's up to. I'll stand by my suspicion.

And I'd have the same doubts on Michele Obama's imagined endorsement of same-sex marriage that I have of Cindi McCain's.

Well, that's where I think you are wrong.This "us or them" mentality is the problem,not her political party.I know liberals who are against abortion who have conservative views. What exactly does that prove? God knows I have issues with the GOP but to discriminate against every Republican? So, if you are or were a Republican you simply can not be trusted at all by your standards? WOW. If so, we are doomed. I don't see things as black and white as you do. I applaud Cindy. I use to really admire her husband as well. If he comes around wouldn't that be a shock? Gays elected Obama and the McCain's come out for marriage equality.We'll get nowhere if everyone thinks like you do on this issue. I don't see how anyone can win with you. You question everyone's motives no matter how sincere. You still have not answered what Cindy has to gain by pretending.I'm sure there are Republicans (like Sarah Palin) who voted for her husband who are pissed off by this. I would think that would bring you some sort of joy.

Roscoe - you really do sound like you're barking at the wind on this one. What's to be suspicious of, at this point? The usefulness of her participation is already put into effect - what's the potential 'other shoe' to drop? Even if she doesn't actually believe in it - which would make her allowance completely nonsensical - what further action could she take to negate this signal?
