Aw, guys. Casablanca is seriously worth watching.
This isn't a classic, but considering my age group, people definitely think it's weird I haven't watched Jurassic Park.
As for actual classics, I haven't seen Psycho, The Great Dictator, or Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, among other things.

Posted: 10/6/05 at 2:10pmI don't think there are any "classic movies" that I haven't seen. That's what I do, watch movies. Whilst others are watching tv shows, I'm watching films.

Posted: 10/6/05 at 5:17pmMe too, and now you can't find it anywhere. I've never seen "Citizen Kane" either. Which is more important?

Definitly see "The Great Dictator". Too many people see Chaplin's name and think "pie in face, man falls down, woman faints, end of film". Look beyond his early Mutual films (though some of the shorts are wonderful) and see "City Lights" and the aforementioned "Dictator" movie. His sense of timing and use of language are amazing in Dictator, and "City Lights", though flawed in some ways, is a wonderful film if you want to learn how to have empathy for a character in a film.
As for the other conversation....The term "Classic" is highly subjective and I won't even go into that.

Posted: 10/6/05 at 7:10pmI've never seen the sound of music, but I sorta want to now after having recently found out that one of the nuns calls Julie Andrews a cu*t face at some point in the film...

I have never seen Red River....not much for John Wayne movies. Howevere, last night I saw a clip from it.
Two hot young cowboys, one played the beautiful Montgomery Clift, dismount their horses. The dialogue goes something like this:
CB1 to Clift:That sure was a nice looking gun you pulled out back there. Can I see it?
Clift (with some boysih trepidation): Sure.
CB1:That's nice. Can I hold it?
Clift (smiling slyly): Here.
CB1 (Coyly):I'll show you mine if you want.
Clift: That's a nice one too.
They both get off a couple of shots with each others guns then say, after the shots,
"that feels nice."
"yours feels good too"
That's a movie I have to see.

I've seen so many films, and there are so many others worth watching before you sit through Citizen Kane. Yes..it had some nice lighting. Yes, the story is famous. However, for some of the same effects, and a better story...see the silent King Vidor movie "The Crowd" or even "The Big Parade". Or, see the German films from 1915-1926 to find the same shot set ups.
Of course, Citizen Kane is easier to get your hands on. Even if it is buried under piles of dust at Blockbuster.

Posted: 10/6/05 at 8:18pmForget Blockbuster. They specialize in the classics of Vin Diesel and The Rock. Use Netflix.
#44re: Classic Movies You Haven't Seen
Posted: 10/6/05 at 8:24pmDon't use Netflix if your are interested in seeing a wide range of classics. It'll only take you about a week or so to rent all of their classics. There's more to classic movies than Citizen Kane and The Graduate.
#45re: Classic Movies You Haven't Seen
Posted: 10/6/05 at 8:31pmI hadn't seen It's a Wonderful Life till last year and I had to watch it in films class. I still haven't seen Gone With the Wind or Citizen Kane.

Really? You hate movies? All movies? Or just tha crap that's been passed off as movies over the last 10 years or so?
If that's the case...then I agree with you.

Posted: 10/6/05 at 10:59pmThose of you who haven't seen CITIZEN KANE, don't fret. It is utterly overrated! Not that it isn't stylish out the wazoo; and not that it wasn't innovative, just that, as a whole, it isn't all that thrilling. Not to me, anyway. I saw it once, and that was more than enough.
