Posted: 3/30/05 at 6:23pmThe only drawback is that horsefaced Julia Roberts. Two guys in rivalry to have sex with her? Hollywood can really come up with the stories.

Clive Owen is one Seeeeeeeeeeexy man! Love him. Read and performed in the play. But haven't seen the movie.

Posted: 3/30/05 at 8:40pmI thought it was an interesting writing and audience exercise in that we were forced to make all our conclusions based on what the characters said instead of what they did but, overall, I wasn't blown away by it. I thought Owen buried his co-stars in every scene.

Posted: 3/30/05 at 10:37pmI thought everything about it was good except the plot. I just never bought that these four people kept switching between the four of them as if there were no other people on the planet, like each of these people would all find another who was just as obsessed with her as he was with her and one as obsessed with him as she was with him and on and on and on...it just never rang true to me. They just kept going back and forth over and over again and I go so bored with it.

Posted: 3/30/05 at 10:39pmWhat I didn't like about the movie is how people could be that horrible. That's pathetic that people do not have self control or a conscience that they would just keep cheating on each other.

Posted: 3/30/05 at 11:54pmI ADORE this movie! I don't like the changes they made from the original play - the play is far more effective, but the movie worked basically well until the last few scenes. Mike Nichols direction is pretty solid, but questionable in parts. I think this is the entire cast's greatest work - especially Clive Owen, my boyfriend who was robbed of an Oscar. Julia Roberts surprised me - I expected her to be playing herself again. This time, she plays herself a little better than she usually does. AS much as I think she's a pretty mediocre actor, something about her is enthralling. I think it's her eyes. Anyway, I love the whole style of this movie and think it's fantastic.

Posted: 3/31/05 at 12:36amthis movie hit too close for comfort for me. situations like this do happen. it was a true, not a candy coated look at the underside of relationships.

Posted: 3/31/05 at 12:52amWhile Julia Roberts and Clive Owen were excellent, I am not a fan of this movie. I did not like nor understand any of the characters, the dialogue was ONLY interesting in some parts, and (contrary to popular belief) I felt that Portman was the weakest of the four. As I've said before, her performance in "Garden State" was much more impressive.

Portman seemed the least comfortable with the dialogue style, that's for sure. I thought Law did his best with a completely dislikable character.
Nichols didn't handle time and space transitions especially well either. Abrupt passages of time are fine onstage but in the movie there was no reason to think months had passed from one scene to the next.

Posted: 3/31/05 at 2:41pmWhile I liked the performances just fine, and was particularly surprised by how incredible Julia Roberts was, I couldn't distance myself from how much I love the play and how the film just didn't measure up. The change to the ending is particularly unforgiveable, as is the removal of the play's strongest scene.

Posted: 3/31/05 at 8:08pmI thought the performances were wonderful, the direction inspired and the cinematography really great - but the script itself is one of the worst I've ever had to sit through and, call me old fashioned, but I don't know ANYONE who uses the F word that many times in a conversation. I found it vulgar and unnecessary. I won't be buying the DVD any time soon.
