Hello!
Where does everyone do their research to try to find monologues for college auditions? I'm looking for some new ones as the majority of the plays I have read and do monologues from (i.e. Laughing Wild) are on the list of "do not perform".
Any help would be fabulous! Thanks.
I would agree that the Tuna Fish monologue from LAUGHING WILD is overdone, and I would stay away from it, unless you are amazing at it.
To be honestly, unless you are auditioning for a prestigious, hard-to-get-into theatre program, most directors will forgive slightly "overdone" material. They understand that you are auditioning for college, not a conservatory or a professional audition.
If you find something that you like and that you are exceptional at, concentrate less on how overdone it is and more on if you can knock it out of the ball park.
Something like Laura's MENAGERIE monologue or the monologue from THE SEAGULL are indeed overdone - but if you're good at it - they will recognize your talent and look forward to introducing you to new material and look forward to seeing you broaden your theatrical horizons.
You are a student, and if accepted, will be a student with them for the next for years. They're not expecting you to come in with someone they have never heard before - they're just hoping you'll be good, regardless of your material.
Best of luck.
Thanks!!
I definitely would like to look for other pieces, though that particular monologue from "Laughing Wild" is one that I have worked with a lot and love to do.
I would rather not go in with a piece on the very specific "do not do" list though...
oy... this makes it so hard!
Well worth the challenge, though.
i wish you luck on this endeavor. do what you do. and what you do should always seem fresh in their minds. if you do laura's monologue or the LAUGHING WILD, play it so that it is fresh and exciting.that way youll never fail.

go to a library or bookstore and look through the plays.
i know it's time consuming... but how badly do you want to get into a good school?
you really need to do the research yourself, because people can make suggestions but chances are, nobody is going to throw you a monologue that you're going to fall in love with.
That's always the truth...
College auditions drive me nuts!!!!!!
You really just need to find a play and a character that speaks to you. You're not going to find that by getting any of those "Monologues for Actors, volume 156743" books. Find some plays that seem interesting with some interesting (young) characters, and read them. That's your best bet.
