How does one go about getting pre-recorded accompaniment? Most regonial audition sites for college require it. I was thinking about using a synthesizer program like Finale Allegro, if I can get my hands on a copy.
As a side note (just do I don't have to make a new thread) how many colleges should one audition for?
I just had a teacher record the piano accompaniment onto a tape and it was fine.
Also The site is under construction but, if you got
www.unifiedauditions.com at later date it will have alot of information also check out http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/
I go to a super competitive high school, even though its public, and they tell us between 10 and 12 but that has always seemed like a lot to me...

10 to 12 is a little much. You always want the schools you KNOW you can get in, then try auditioning for 2 to 3 "reach" schools.

10-12 is a little high but 8 is a reasonable and realistic number if you're looking to study theatre. BFA admissions is very selective and most programs are small. No audition-based program can be considered a safety. In other words, auditioning for only 2-3 schools is setting yourself up for disappointment. You should always include at least one true safety, a non-audition school where you are guaranteed to get in academically. The advice earlier on the thread to check out College Confidential is excellent. It's the best resource online for this type of college admissions question.

What do people use to record there accompaniment? It says that only CD accompaniment is accepted (so that rules out my tape recorder).
Invest in an apple ipod recorder. It'll save your life on many many occasions. Also look up local piano players or music schools, pay them to record your 16-32 bar cuts. Try and get both, you never know.
I auditioned for 15. woo hoooo
