Posted: 8/11/10 at 12:13pmMonsanto is an effed up behemoth, but the implication that this bill is about to criminalize homegrown food is a ... reach, to say the least.

Monsanto has been controlling the FDA and congress for decades. They had a free rein during the Bush II years. And it looks like not much has changed.
They aren't doing anything more than utilizing the power derived from decades of "free market" "obliterate regulation" "government is the problem" "those who pay for elections reap the benefits" thinking.

Borstalboy, I'm glad you brought up your concern DURING the Obama administration rather than ignoring the issue like the cowardly Bush supporters did during the dark years of his rule.

If anyone wants to seriously discuss it-
I live out in the sticks- farm country. I've seen stuff at farm stands that baffles me- and I'd hope this bill would provide a little bit of oversight to the "home" grower that's hauling his turnips into the town square.
Actually, the turnips aren't to scary- I can wash them off. But gals selling home canned food? Oh God, the nightmares!

So the real question is who is actually going to contract their representatives and let them know where they stand on the issue?
Who is going to do the follow through with their reps?
If you've never called your rep.. this a great first issue to start with.

Not unless Michelle decides to set up a farm stand and start selling her arugula.
It's to regulate the SELLING of "home-grown" food. Hence, the "deceptive" part

OK...I had asked based on the FDL article:
Congress — at the apparent behest of Monsanto — is moving to make it a crime to "grow, own, trade, transport, share, feed and eat" one’s own food.

Yeah. FDL is wrong.
Note: Liberal admitting fellow liberal is wrong. That just doesn't happen on the other side- COUNT on it!
