My brother was one of the firefighters shown in the Daily Show report. He was diagnosed with Multiple myeloma in 2005, and we have been trying to find a bone marrow doner for him ever since.

He was married mid-July to Hillary Clinton's long-time aide. She's also a devout Muslim, and the marriage was officiated by none other than Bill Clinton. Thanks for the mention of the Daily Show clip. I hadn't heard of it. Particularly disenheartening is Republican Brady, of Texas, who at 3:55 offers this gem regarding 9-11 responders: "They went in to save survivors, not raise taxes!"

'cause really, what do you say to that kind of "logic"? Also upsetting is that the money for this bill wasn't coming out of taxpayers' pockets, but rather by closing a loophole that allows foreign entities to escape paying tax. You'd think the 'publicans would be all over that.

Yeah, silly naive Democrats, trying to avoid the Republicans turning the bill into a Christmas tree bill by hanging amendments all over it. The Dems opted instead for a 2/3 vote, which would have allowed the bill to pass as is, without the endless delay and amendments the Republicans would have subjected it to, turning it into a diluted shadow and bastardization of its former self.

Their error is understandable, really, for what decent soul would not vote to use closing a foreign tax loophole to assist those who developed chronic serious medical problems as a result of their bravery rather than give up their chance to change the bill? What the hell were the Dems thinking, actually believing that their Republican colleagues could see past politics to help our suffering heroes from 9-11? It's already too late for many of them.

The Democrats' only mistake was gambling on the Republicans having a heart.The Republicans will vote 2/3 for allowing bankrupted people to keep their firearms, but not to help the heroes of our country - and that, CountA, to use your phrase, is very sad indeed.

Sorry. I thought we were bringing up people and subjects only partially related to the matter at hand. You brought up Pelosi as regards to a dictatorship which aside from being inaccurate, wasn't directly germane to the discussion. I was just playing your game. I'd be happy to get back to the subject at hand, which is seeing to it that our heroes of 9-11 get the assistance they so desperately need and deserve. I'm sure you didn't really mean to equate trying to pass that bill by a 2/3 vote to any form of dictatorship. As you must know, it was a perfectly viable method allowed by our laws, attempted in order to get help to our heroes faster. How odd that you would think that is anything remotely resembling a dictatorship. Attempting to get more people to vote for the bill rather than waste time when the very people who are affected by this bill are seeing their time run out is akin to dictatorship exactly how? Maybe you should study procedure a bit more so you don't make that mistake again.
