I suspect that in a few years when we look back at this crisis, we will find that much of our response has been either in error or didn't matter in many ways. There are many many statistics that are in conflict with events. For instance, Cuomo showed a graph which indicated that 66% of the people who got Covid 19 did shelter in place. There are also genetic indications that a large percent of the national exposures may have come from NYC.
On the other hand there are commentators on Fox who have suggested that the Swedish approach to just social distance while leaving everything open to create herd immunity makes more sense. Yet Sweden has had about the same number of deaths as California which has four times the population.
Trump made idiotic statements throughout but his statements pale in comparison to the CDC screwing up test development for one month and Trump did stop flights from China while other political leaders where not alarmed and did attack him for doing it. The only person who made a great early call was Gov. Newsom. And a lot of people have made very bad calls including Cuomo, who advised hospitals to place exposed elderly patients back into nursing homes on March 25. He had other choices.
When De Santis left Florida open for spring break and then refused to lock down the state, I thought he should have been arrested and sent to an asylum. He was very late to do anything and still hasn't done much. Yet in a state with 21M people there have been only 1700 deaths.
My feeling is that we know less and understand less than we think. New York has been and will continue to be devastated by this pandemic. We all need tolerance and compassion because the hurt is uneven and seems unfair. It would be great if we had leadership which tried to bring us together but we don't so it's just up to us.

I appreciate the sentiment "Highland Guy" but I am done. We may disagree on 95% of things but at least to my knowledge we have been civil with each other. I finally had enough with other posters who are just plain nasty IMO and full of hate. Also, even when discussing Broadway the tone some of these "Broadway Legends" have when somebody dares to state a opinion that they don't agree with bothers me. I came to this board to have fun and if I talk about political things I want it to be a civil conversation, sadly that does not happen often. I can't delete account so I have to wait for mod to respond to my email and get rid of it. Take care and stay safe !!
