Ok..
So when I go out, my signature drink is the cosmopolitan.
I've recently tried making them at home. I use vodka, triple sec, cranberry juice and lime juice and or fresh limes.
I can never get it to taste the way it does when i'm out, nor can i get that gorgeous pink color i'm looking for. It's usually orangy or yellowih or even brownish. I've played with varying amounts of all the ingredients.
Can anyone offer a hint as to what I may be doing wrong?

Posted: 8/29/06 at 10:30pmI find that cosmopolitans are tricky to make, too. Ours are usually pink, they just don't taste the same.

Your problem is the triple sec. You should be using cointreau.
1 Part Cointreau
2 Parts Vodka ( I would use Absolute or Grey Goose for best flavor)
Juice of 1/2 Lime. (room temp works best)
Splash of Cranberry

I do one each of vodka, triple sec (or cointreau if in the house) and cranberry. Shake and pour.
I use a lemon twist, twist it so the lemon oil floats on the surface of the drink
I do not drink them, but my wife likes them that way

Cheezedoodle's recipe is mine as well.
I only use Cointreau.

Miss Pennywise (and others) just another reason why I like you all. Cosmos!
My recipe is:
3 oz of Grey Goose L'Orange
1/2 ounce of Cointreau. Have also used Grand Marnier
Splash of Cranberry Juice
Squeeze of Fresh Lime
Garnish with Lime peel

I have made big pitchers of ice-cold Cosmos at my house for parties, and people drink them like they're lemonade. Then suddenly KABBAM!
(Oh yeah, I use A LOT of crushed ice and shake for a long time so it's REALLY cold.)

Yay! Cosmo talk!
I'm having a white cosmo party - I don't have the recipe yet, though.

White Cosmos are good and they look less GAY!
I like Grand Marnier as well as Cointreau. Actually, equal parts of each is quite tasty.

I wonder if it's ever *really* too early for a little cocktail...
I mean, we have mimosas with Sunday brunch, right? What's the harm in a little titchy at 11 am on a Wednesday?

Posted: 8/30/06 at 11:28amJaily darling, Mimosas are made with Champagne. It's déclassé to drink anything but Champagne before noon.

Posted: 8/30/06 at 11:34amWell, as you know, first thing in the morning, I like my coffee thick, black and strong.

Posted: 8/30/06 at 11:39amOn our girl trips to New Orleans, my travel companions would begin with Mimosas in the limo on the way to the airport around 6 am. Each day during the trip would begin with breakfast at the Old Coffee Pot with a Mimosa with fresh squeezed OJ or a Bloody Mary with fresh mix. (While I would have the occasional mimosa at the Coffee Pot, I was MUCH younger than my girlfriends and had no children so it wasn't as necessary to pack as much alcohol as possible into the week.)

I'll be there in May of '07. Beignets, cafe au lait, and frozen drinks straight out of those Slurpee machines!

I have friends going down there today for Southern Decadence. We almost went, but we're doing so much other traveling.
Plus--a weekend in New Orleans like that requires a week of recovery.

Off topic:
If getting drunk is the goal, make sure you head to The Cat's Meow before 7. Drinks are 3 for 1. They make the mixed drinks in 32 ounce cups for the price of a typical small drink. People will try to tell you that the best breakfast is at The Court of Two Sisters. It's nice but overpriced. I prefer The Old Coffee Pot. Ask for Willemenia and have a Sister Soul Food Omelette and a Mimosa. Nothing like it. As for a nice semi schmancy dinner, I love K-Paul's place. While I am sure that you have been there before, I love telling people about the places I love. Have fun. I am not sure if I will be going back anytime soon.
