The premiere was hilarious. Rachel Bloom is a great lead, and the musical numbers are fantastic. Definitely on my watch list for the season...

CWTV says yes. I think it's on Hulu, too, but I don't think you have Hulu.

The CW website says it's free on there, but it keeps directing me to a trailer, not the whole show.
I feel like they'll replay this later in the week. Mine CW is playing it again Friday, but I don't know if it's on all CWs

The poor lip syncing was distracting. I don't know why they didn't try harder to nail it given that the music was such an integral part of the concept.

After watching the white bread version of Showboat on PBS tonight I was totally caught off guard by the new CEG on the CW. Rachel Bloom and Santino Fontana are so charmingly funny and great together. The premise is fresh, interesting characters, and the music is fun too. I thought the "Sexy Getting Ready Song" was very cute. I'll keep watching and I hope that it catches on. It definitely has its' pluses. It's almost too good to fit in to the CW line up.

I tuned in a little late, maybe missing the first 5-6 minutes, but thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely on my watch list.

I really, really enjoyed it. iTunes has the pilot for free download, if anyone missed it.

Posted: 10/19/15 at 12:16amI enjoyed the hell out of it - it's more Flight of the Conchords than Smash, and much like the former, seems to have come right out of the gate with a strong sense of its own style and what it's trying to do, which is unusual for a comedy. Here's hoping the post-pilot episodes follow through on that promise.

I have high hopes for this one. The scenes from future episodes are filled with production numbers and even some black and white Fred and Ginger kind of stuff, granted that's been done before, but I'm still interested in where they take this little gem.

Interesting reviews from you guys. The first "fall preview" review in TV Guide was terrible, but this week they had a side article on how good this is.
I assumed this was an expansion of the "overly attached girlfriend" meme and even thought it was the same woman, but apparently not.
I didn't find any connection between the two. Does anyone know?

I don't know what that is. I don't think they are related.
ETA - I just looked it up and they are different.

FYI, see the BWW interview with Gabrielle Ruiz. CEG is on tonight and has even more Broadway/theater talent than I realized. This show is definitely on my must see list now.

Well, last nights' CEG gave us Bollywood and Bubble Gum pop numbers. It's still finding itself but I like it alot and Rachel Bloom has the crazy part down already. I read it's a little ratings challenged right now, but it's only on opposite the Voice and Big Bang.So everybody check it out.

Rachel Bloom has had success on YouTube for a few years with YouTube songs starting with F*CK Me Ray Bradbury and including last years Someone Watch the Tonys with Me. I think this weeks Naughty Song was a YouTube one before too but could be wrong. It was great. The Bollywood number was weak I thought especially compared to Smash's ?? but I find the show slight but fun enough.

Critics said the same about Jane the Virgin which I haven't watched but I imagine this is why they are paired. Apparently it was originally intended for Showtime.

I wasn't expecting much, but I really enjoyed this. It's nice to see that Marc Webb learned how to direct a musical number. As I was watching it, I thought, This is like (500) Days of Summer, only good! So I was both surprised and unsurprised when Webb's name came up in the credits. And Rachel Bloom is great, although isn't she basically Lena Dunham 2.0?
I'm not sure how long they can sustain it (I was already getting a little bored by the second episode), but I'll stick with it for now.
The only thing that bugged me is that West Covina is not four hours from the beach. It's not even two hours. It's at most an hour with traffic, half an hour without traffic. I know that was a joke, but I don't think there's any way to make that joke funny. Also, West Covina is just one of a million suburbs of L.A. that all more or less run together, and yet they made it seem like some unique, insular town, which also kind of annoyed me. Or is that the joke?

Guys, this show just keeps getting better and better...if you haven't watched it yet, give it a look. This week especially; the songs were hilarious.'Hey sexy stranger please don't be a murderer" and Santino Fontana's "Settle for Me" in glorious black and white, tap dancing Fred & Ginger. Rachel Bloom really has her mugging and timing practically perfect. (not to mention, singing about washing your stinky balls). I think Adam Schlesinger has what it takes as a composer/songwriter for sure. I want to research what else he's done.
I hope the CW gives it some time and I'm inclined to start emailing them now. It's only on opposite the big bang voice machine. DVR it and laugh.

I was just thinking earlier tonight this is pretty much the only new TV show this season that I look forward to.

Hi PRS
Me too: I really get a kick out of CEG! Everything else is falling flat; Scream Queens is still way too uneven. I've started watching Gotham not only for the cartoonish value, but the actors on that show are busting their butts. They have some great villains, not just one or two, several really interesting evil doers. Plus I love Moreena Baccarin as Gordon's girlfriend. Still, Crazy EG is still my pick for best show of this year.![]()

GOtham is a MESS (and what's with every newish show on Fox being unable to write for women?)
But yes CEG was great this week. ANd I wouldn't stress it--it's getting decent numbers by CW standards and is one of their few critical hits--and they knew it would be a "quirky counter programming" thing. It's safe this year and probably guaranteed a second season.

Jane The Virgin is more 3 dimensional and has a lot of heart which is lacking in Crazy Ex. Maybe part of it is that the premise is a bit lacking. I think there is a really good show there, it just has not found itself. We need to care more or folks will not keep up with it. That being said Santino can sing me to sleep. I love his voice.

I would personally say no, because I find Rachel Bloom to be funny. I couldn't imagine Lena Dunham being able to have other characters joke about and tear down a sudden conversion to veganism the way it was handled on this show. I also couldn't imagine Rachel being shocked and offended when the rest of the world didn't find her writing about "using the same techniques as a child molester" to get her kid sister to explore her body with her to be particularly funny or cute.
